(Poem of Lord Shri Krishna)

Saptama Dalam—Seventh Leaf

1) Venunaadamadhuvaangmayena me,

Venunaamaka kaveh pratikshanam,

Giiyataam sa madhusuudano madhau,

Yena venu ninadena giiyate.

[In the spring season (Madhu), let Lord Krishna, who killed the demon called as Madhu, be sung every minute, by My poetry, which is as sweet as His flute song and the name of this poet is also Venu (flute).]

2) Karoshi karunaam Krishna!, mahaapaapini mayyapi,

Yattacchaaru yashash chandre, Krishnasaaraayate tava.

[O Krishna! You are showing kindness even on Me, who is the greatest sinner. This beautiful work is shining like the black deer in Your fame-moon. (The black spot in the moon is viewed as the black deer by poets. If you break the word Krishnasaaraayate as Krishna saaraayate, another meaning comes:- Krishna=O Krishna! saaraayate= this work shows Your strength to protect even the greatest sinner.)]

3) Liilaagatispandi vilaasamuulam,

Pincham manisvarnakiriitabaddham,

Aalokya duutaaya dade hrudeva,

Duuraat krurustriibhiranangaraajyam.

[When You went to Kauravaas as messenger of Paandavaas, on seeing Your peacock feather that is bound on the top of Your golden-gem crown on head, which is vibrating by Your beautiful walking style, the ladies of Kauravaas standing far, gave up their heart, which is the kingdom of cupid to You. (Though their husbands were reluctant to give a part of kingdom, they gave their total kingdom to Krishna!)]

4) Shatamanmadhakotisundaraaya,

Vrajakanyaahrudayaabdhi mandaraaya,

Yaduvamsha payodhi chandiraaya,

Pranatih paandava chitta mandiraaya.

[My salutation to Lord Krishna, who is the deity in the mind-temples of Paandavaas, who is as beautiful as hundred crores of cupids, who is the churning Mandara mountain of the heart-ocean of cowherd ladies and who is the full moon born in the Yaadava dynasty-sea.]

5) Kshiiraabdhipriyaduhituh svayamvarasrak,

Paanisthaa taralasuraih vilokyate tat,

Padmaayaashchirasamayaadapaangamaalaa,

Padmaakshe yadakalitaa niveshitaiva.

[Goddess Lakshmi is walking with the garland of lotus flowers to select her husband. The fascinated angels attending that function are looking at that garland only thinking that it is still in the hands of Goddess Lakshmi even though long back it was placed around the neck of God Vishnu (Krishna) by Goddess Lakshmi.]

6) Prasannayaiva hi drushaa, kamlaakshasya kevalam,

Jvaalayaa jaayate bhasma, mahaapaataka panchakam.

[The look of lotus-eyed Krishna is very cool, but, it is a flame of the fire being red due to His lotus eyes! Hence, by such single cool look itself, the horrible top five sins are burnt to become ash!]

7) Adhishthaanam sattvam sitamapi tamovarnavapushah,

Tavaitat dhautaamshuh tava hrudayavaasii sa hi Shivah,

Adhishthaanam Shambhoh tama iti vasasyasya hrudaye,

Na tarkyam vaam dvaitam yugapadapi chaadvaitamavatu.

[The basic quality of God Vishnu is white Sattvam even though He is having the black tamas as His color. This means that white God Shiva is in the heart of black God Vishnu. The basic quality of God Shiva is black tamas even though He is having the white sattvam as His color. This means that black God Vishnu is in the heart of white God Shiva. Let this dualism of both of You having simultaneous monism beyond logic protect us. (The exchange of qualities of both are due to the need of their works. Vishnu is soft sattvam and He needs hard tamas in His administration of the world. Shiva is hard tamas and He needs soft sattvam to be in meditation since the destruction of world is far off).]

8) Yaadavaaya yamunaajalakumbham,

Paadapaanatapadaaya vahantii,

Adhvani dhvanitakimkinikaa kaa,

Gopikaa cha na chakaara vikaaram?

[Which Gopikaa didn’t show the effect of cupid (romance) to attract Krishna on seeing Him sitting on the branch of tree stretching one leg down, by walking in the way creating sweet sounds of tiny bells of anklets, while carrying a pot of water to her house?]

9) Mattaanaam taalamadyena, vamshavaadyena cha striyaam,

Dandakhanda dhvani kriidaa, tena vriidaa cha vardhate.

[Gopikaas semiconscious on drinking the Palmyra wine and becoming unconscious by the flute song of Krishna are dancing in Brundaavanam. The game producing sounds by mutual beating of short sticks in hands moving round is progressing. Along with it, their shyness towards Krishna is also progressing!]

10)Ghatam bhinattyesha jalaavahaanaam,

Snaane haratyeva patam kimaasaam?

Ghatam patam puurvabhave vitarkya,

Na mokshamaapurmunayo yatomii.

[Krishna is breaking the pots of Gopikas while bringing water and is stealing their cloths while they bathe in the river. The reason is that these Gopikas were sages in the previous birth always busy with logical discussions mentioning pot and cloth as examples and couldn’t get salvation through such debates. (In logic, often the examples of pot and mud and cloth and threads comes up as examples for cause and effect.)]

11)Vallavasya kathayaami katham nu,

Maulipincha makutasya vilaasam?

Tam sahasraguna shodasha kanyaah,

Yaanti ko nu yuvaraajavivaahah?

[How can I explain the beauty of this cowherd boy having crown on His head with the smart peacock feather on it? All the sixteen thousand girls of kings in this country married Him only! No boy of king is getting married in that generation! (Since almost all daughters of kings loved Krishna only, King Narakaasura imprisoned all the girls. When Krishna killed Narakaasura, they married Him expressing their love to Krishna.)]

12)Aavaahayaami muralii madhurasvaraambhah-

Kallola saagara paripluta lokajaalam,

Liilaavataara matisundara madya kamchit,

Muktaavalii makuta chanchala chaaru pincham.

[I invite some inexplicable personality, who drowned all the worlds in the sweet song–ocean of flute by tidal waves, who is the most stylish and most beautiful human incarnation of God and who is decorated by the crown having pearl garlands around and at the top of it the smart peacock feather vibrating.]

13)Shravana kanaka bhuushaanaddhamaanikyarochih-

Sphuradaruna kapolaalola kanyaa sahasram,

Tilakusuma sugandhi shvaasa naasaabhiramam,

Mukhakuvalaya mekam ramya maaraadhayaamah.

[We are worshiping the beautiful blue face-lotus flower of Krishna, which is having two side cheeks shining with the light of red gems fixed with the golden ear rings attracting thousands of girls and which is having the nose like scented tender and smart sesame flower.]

14)Gaganamiva cha sandhyaakaanti maargam yadekam,

Kusha vilikhita muurdhvam kumkumaamkam cha dhatte,

Bharamararuchiravruntaan kaakapakshaaamshcha paschaat,

Mukhakuvalayameakam mugdhamaaraadhayaamah.

[We are worshiping the charming blue face-lotus flower of Krishna, which is showing the vertical saffron mark drawn on the forehead like the red twilight-ray on the blue sky and which is having back curling hair shining like black bees.]

15)Niravadhirasa vaagbhih Kshiirapaane karena,

Chibuka mapi yashoodaa laalayaamaasa yasya,

Karapihita vihaasa kshiirakanyekshitam khaat,

Mukhakuvalayameakam ramyamaaraadhayaamah.

[We are worshiping the beautiful blue face-lotus flower of Krishna, which is lulled by mother Yashoda by keeping palm under its chin and seeing this Goddess Lakshmi is laughing from sky by putting her palm on her mouth.]

16)Tilamamala kapolam yasya dhattepyavaamam,

Mukuaramiva karaamkam kajjalaalamkriyaayaah,

Munijana hrudayaanaa meka kallolakaari,

Mukhakuvalayameakam mugdhamaaraadhayaamah.

[We are worshiping the charming blue face-lotus flower of Krishna, which is having a black spot of soot on right cheek looking like a mirror in the hand of a lady marked with soot in decoration and which alone could create tidal waves of romance in the hearts of even sages.]

17)Mrudashanaparushaambaatarjitam saashru bhiitam,

Vivruta madhara madhye darshitaashesha lokam,

Taralakana paraagaih puuritam karnikaayaam ,

Mukhakuvalayameakam ramyamaaraadhayaamah.

[We are worshiping the beautiful blue face-lotus flower of Krishna, which is with fear and tears on the banging of Yashodaa about eating soil and showing all the rotating worlds in the open mouth between two lips looking like the blue lotus flower having moving pollen grains in the centre.]

18)Apaharanarayena kshiiradadhnaa viliptam,

Tarala nayana mamba darshanaat sambhramena,

Himachayaparinaddham lolarolambayugmam,

Mukhakuvalayameakam mugdhamaaraadhayaamah.

[We are worshiping the charming blue face-lotus flower of Krishna, which is marked with milk and curd due to speed in stealing and when caught by mother like Gopikaa is revolving the two eyes looking like a blue lotus flower marked with snow having two rotating bees on it.]

19)Madhura madhura naadairmanda phuutkaaragiitaih,

Karakamala muralyaa raasakelim vidhaaya,

Animisha kalanaanaam dhaarayaa gopikaanaam,

Mukhakuvalayameakam ramyamaaraadhayaamah.

[We are worshiping the beautiful blue face-lotus flower of Krishna, which is doing the dance in Brundavanam with songs on flute present in both hands by blowing it with mild air through mouth and is associated with the streams of looks of cowherd ladies.]

20)Anishamavasha Raadhaa chumbanairaardrabhaavam,

Nija hrudayavilokam kaarayatyeva drushtam,

Parashiva mavatiirnam mohayaamaasa saakshaat,

Mukhakuvalayameakam mugdhamaaraadhayaamah.

[We are worshiping the charming blue face-lotus flower of Krishna, which is wet by continuous kisses of uncontrolled Raadha, which is showing His heart wet by kindness and which fascinated even Radha, the human incarnation of God Shiva as done previously as Mohini incarnation fascinating God Shiva Himself! (Raadha is the incarnation of Sage Durvaasa, who is the incarnation of God Shiva.)]

21)Govindamaravindaaksham, Maadhavam Madhusuudanam,

Gopaalam Gopikaalolam, asmadiiyamupaasmahe.

[We meditate on Govinda, Aravindaaksha (lotus eyed Lord), Maadhava, Madhusuudana and Gopikaalolaa (fascinated to cowherd ladies), who belongs to Me.]

22)Aashaadhodaya baalakomala rasacchaayaambudashyaamalam,

Praatarbhinna sugandhi padmamukula shriilochanaarchirmukham,

Shriivatsaankavishaalavakshasamushastaamroshthabhaanusmitam,

Pumsaam mohanamaakalayya tamimam kanyaa param kaa smaret?

[Which girl can think of somebody else as her husband after seeing Krishna, who is pale black like the cloud of Aashaadha month (rainy season), who is having the face containing the two eyes shining like opened lotus flowers in early morning with sweet scent, who is having a mole on the chest called as Shrivatsa, who is having white smile on red lips like white Sun rays on red twilight and who is creating romantic ideas even in the hearts of male sages?]

23)Kasmaadidam mattamayuura pincham,

Maanikya muktaa makutaanta baddham,

Mukunda! mandaanchala chamchalam te,

Vilokya chakshushchira nischalam me?

[O Mukunda! On seeing the feather of fatty peacock with vibrating ends bound on Your crown decorated with red gems along with pearls, why My eyes are static on it only?]

24)Shariirasyopari sthaane, pinche makutagochare,

Visvaruupasya chaitanyam, sarvasaakhiiva lochanam.

[The eye present in the centre of the peacock feather situated on the top of Your crown standing above Your body looks like the awareness through eye of Your cosmic form supervising the entire world.]

25)Niryaana nirvaana parayanaanaam,

Aananda maakanda rasaaturaanaam,

Kaarunya taarunyatayaa varenyah,

Shrivaasudevo nitaraam sharanyah.

[The eternal asylum is Shri Vaasudeva for the devotees, who are fascinated towards salvation in the end and who are fascinated to enjoy the sweet mango juice of bliss.]

26)Adya lolupati maamakam mano,

Drashtumarka valaye dinodaye,

Hemapaatra pihitam paraatparam,

Shankhachakrabhuja mabjalochanam.

[Today, in the morning, My mind is fascinated to see the lotus eyed Lord covered by golden vessel in the Sun, having Shankha (conch shell) and chakra (radiating wheel) on both shoulders. (The Veda says that God is present in Sun covered by a golden vessel - Hiranmayena paatrena….)]

27)Aavarjayatyahaha taavaka mouli pincham,

Nilaambuvaahatala mimdradhanuhpinaddham,

Kasmaadaharnishamidam hrudayam nishaayaam,

Brundaavana plavana chamchalamekadrushyam?

[Why Your peacock feather is attracting Me day and night like the blue sky plane bound with rainbow, which is the only scene in the nights in Brundavana garden that vibrates by Your jumps in dance?]

28)Vakratvamuktaam kurushe yathaa taam,

Patolikaam gandavadatra kubjaam,

Shvavaala vakraam dhishanaam tathaa me,

Krutvaa tava khyaapaya Krishna! Shaktim!

[You have removed the curved nature of the body of Kubja like removing the curved nature of the patola fruit by tying a stone in its end. O Krishna! In the same way, remove the curved nature of My mind, which can’t be removed like the curved nature of the tail of dog. You prove Your power by bringing straightness in My mind! (The patola fruit is like snake and if a stone is tied in its end, it grows straight. Kubja was having curved nature in the body and when Krishna went to Madhura, He removed her curved nature by stretching her up with hands.)]

29)Chakshuh kuvalayaa piidam,        Samchaare nagarastriyaam,

Hamtum kuvalayaapiidah, tvaameti madamatsarah.

[When You are wandering in the streets of Madhura city, You caused pressure to the blue lotus eyes of city ladies with Your beauty. In order to revenge, the elephant called as Kuvalayaapiida is approaching You to kill You with ego and jealousy. (The word Kuvalayaapiida has two meanings:- i) The name of an elephant and ii) person or Krishna causing pressure to blue lotus eyes of ladies of the city.)]

30)Dayaa cha shaktih kiyatii tava prabho!

Na matsamah paapakrudeva vidyate,

Purashcha pashchaat tava darshanaadaho!

Na mat samah paavana eva vidyate.

[O Lord! What a wonderful kindness and power You posses! Before seeing You, there was no sinner equal to Me. After seeing You, there is no holy person equal to Me!]

31)Saa syaat kokilakaakalii kila maraaverandavrukshaayitaa,

Samsaare madhumaasi me madhugiraa yeyam puraa varnitaa,

Asmaabhirmadhusuudanasya vachaanaabhaayairudiirnaashrubhih,

Giitih samprati venunissvanasudhaa Brundaavane shruyate.

[In the spring season, in absence of the sweet words of Krishna, the voice of cuckoo might have been praised by My sweet poetry in the past in this world, which was like a castor oil plant existing in a desert as the greatest tree. Now, we are hearing with expressed tears the divine nectar of the flute song in Brundavanam garden.]

32)Aham jaaye trayah putraah, putrii sabhyaahi paalitaah,

Paalakosya kutumbsya, tvameva kamalekshana!

[O lotus eyed Lord! Myself, both the wives, three sons and one daughter—all put together seven members are the members of this family from today onwards. So far, I thought that I am the head of this family containing six members. Now, I have realised that I can’t be the head of this family and shifted Myself to the other side by becoming seventh member of this family and from today onwards, You are the head of this family of seven members]

33)Tvaddayaakshiira sindhoshcha, matpaapa lavanaambudheh,

Na heturnacha paarastat, samah sambhaashyataamayam.

[O Krishna! we both are equal to each other since there is no cause and end to Your kindness-milky ocean and to My sin-salt ocean. Hence, You shall talk with Me.]

34)Dattam tvayaa hrunnalinam jannanyai,

Shivaaya chakshuhkamalam priyaaya,

Paadaambujam me tanayaaya shishtam,

Daanakriyaa rakshita paanipadmam.

[You have given Your heart-lotus to mother Goddess Lakshmi. You have given Your eye-lotus to Your beloved God Shiva. You have given Your foot-lotus to Me, Your son. You have not given Your hand-lotus to anybody since it is saved by You for doing donation to others.]

35)Anekaasura samhaari, bhakta kiirti pradam bhaje,

Venugopaala Krishnaakhyam, Jyotih kimapi sundaram.

[I am worshipping a beautiful light beyond explanation, having the name as Venugopaala Krishna, which killed several demons and gave fame to its devotees.]
