(Poem of Lord Shri Krishna)

Ashtama Dalam—Eighth Leaf

1)  Ayi sharadujjvala raatrivivartana vibhramanartana gopavadhuu-

Kisalayamandala chanchalakundala chaarushikhandaka venukalam,

Chalayamunaajala viichijhalatjhala kimkinikaakula lolaravam,

Bhaja bhaja pallavakomala mullasitasmita vallavavamsharasam.

[During the moon-light nights, in the moving circles of tender leaflets like shepherd ladies, who are twisting their bodies in the dances associated with the sounds of tiny bells of their anklets mixed with the sounds of the waves of Yamuna river, He is singing on the flute while His ear rings and His peacock feather on the head vibrate. Worship and worship such juice of Yadava dynasty, the tender leaflet, having shining smile always on His lips.]

2)  Ihayamunaasalileshu samaagama marmara bambhara mekamaho!

Kuvalayapushpa lataakula michchati vaatacharatcharamutsurabhi,

Iha cha tamaalavane taruniitatirekaHarim muraliimadhuram,

Bhaja bhaja pallavakomala mullasitasmita vallavavamsharasam.

[Here, in the Yamuna river, the crowd of blue lotus creepers moving by wind and water expressing their scent repeatedly is desiring for a sounding single bee moving around them. Here, in the Brundavana forest on the banks of the river, the dancing shepherd maidens are also expressing their love repeatedly to the single Krishna, who is moving around them while singing on the flute. Worship and worship such juice of Yadava dynasty, the tender leaflet, having shining smile always on His lips.]

3)  Vrajayuvativraja chakraprikrama vakrachlaalaka nrutyamaye,

Kinukinu nissvana chanchalakaanchana kankanasamkula taalalayam,

Madhumadhu venumadhusvana giitisuriitibhi raatatarasaratim,

Bhaja bhaja pallavakomala mullasitasmita vallavavamsharasam.

[While the crowd of shepherd ladies is moving round in circular way along with vibrating hair on their foreheads and while their golden bangles are generating sweet sounds in accordance with the musical style, He is inspiring their dance by very very sweet and music bound songs on the flute. Worship and worship such juice of Yadava dynasty, the tender leaflet, having shining smile always on His lips.]

4)  Bhramaraya mandala khandana kundala mandana ganda vihaasakale,

Karayuga danda samaayata khanda paraspara chanda vighaatarave,

Yuvatipichanda vallitrayapinda kuchadvayakunda vilolakaram,

Bhaja bhaja pallavakomala mullasitasmita vallavavamsharasam.

[While moving circularly, following certain rhythm, the ladies cross the circle with laughing sweet sounds reflected on their cheeks having reflections of their moving ear rings, beat across with two straight bits of sticks (a sort of game) generating loud sound, He is moving in the dance irregularly by touching secretly their lean stomachs having three folds and also sometimes touching their breasts. Worship and worship such juice of Yadava dynasty, the tender leaflet, having shining smile always on His lips.]

5)  Nijalalanaakruta chitralataakula chitrasuresha dhanurdharanaa,

Varuna viniila sitaasita piitapisanga hariddyuti pishtaruchi,

Padalayalanghana langhita shabda vidambara kaavyakalaanipunam,

Bhaja bhaja pallavakomala mullasitasmita vallavavamsharasam.

[On the ground these ladies drew various wonderful designs of diagrams with Violet, Indigo, Blue, Green, Yellow, Orange and Red coloured powders, which create an impression that the rainbow has fallen from sky. He is directing the dance with the sounds of flute and anklets in jumps like a poet creating an epic with figures of speech and also alliterations. Worship and worship such juice of Yadava dynasty, the tender leaflet, having shining smile always on His lips.]

6)  Adharasamiira samiiritavenu nivaarita kokila kelikalam,

Makuta parisphura danchala chanchala shakradhanushchavi barahadalam,

Kamalavilochana kaantivikarshita ghoshasatiijana maanadhanam,

Bhaja bhaja pallavakomala mullasitasmita vallavavamsharasam.

[He is defeating the sweet sounds of cuckoo birds playing on trees with His sweet songs on flute by blowing it with the mild air coming out of His sweet lips, He is defeating the beauty of rainbow on the sky with the shining peacock feather on His head and He is stealing the wealth of character of shepherd maidens through the special shining of His lotus-eyes. Worship and worship such juice of Yadava dynasty, the tender leaflet, having shining smile always on His lips.]

7)  Udayavilimbita kaantividambita hemakalaambara kampipadam,

Lalitanavaambuda naadavidambara sammitalambita haararavam,

Svayuvati bimbaphalaadhara chumbita chaarukadamba sumaavayavam,

Bhaja bhaja pallavakomala mullasitasmita vallavavamsharasam.

[He is dancing His feet while the vibrating silk waist-cloth is shining like the morning twilight with gold colour, His jewels and chains on the body are moving giving light sounds resembling the mild sounds of new clouds and His tender limbs like the flowers of Kadamba are often kissed by the tindora fruit like red lips of shepherd ladies. Worship and worship such juice of Yadava dynasty, the tender leaflet, having shining smile always on His lips.]

8)  Tava karunaa charanasya jhalatjhala nissvana nuupura nrutyavatah,

Suratatinii yamunaam pravihaaya sametu madiiya matim malinaam,

Asitakalaam cha sarasvati! Nasphuta riiti matiiha tadantarite ,

Bhaja bhaja pallavakomala mullasitasmita vallavavamsharasam.

[Let Your kindness-Ganga river born from Your feet associated with the sounds of tiny bells of Your anklets resembling the sounds of the waves of river leave the black Yamuna river there and come to mix with my black mind flowing with speedy waves to have the pleasure of the same union. O Sarasvati! the poetry with hidden style! You are already present in this union. Worship and worship such juice of Yadava dynasty, the tender leaflet, having shining smile always on His lips.]

9) Gopagopikaa-gokulaantare, venugiitikaa-lolamaashraye.

[I take asylum of Krishna, who is immersed in singing the sweet song on flute among the cowherds, cowherd-ladies and cows.]

10) Devadevahrut-eva dhaavitam, tasyavidyutaa-ke maharshayah?

[The lightning of the beauty of Krishna made even the heart of Deva Deva or God Shiva to run after. What to speak of the sages!]

11) Vamshavaadyavat-pallavaadharah, shreyase shriyo-vallabhasya me.

[He, the Lord of Goddess Lakshmi, is having the flute made by bamboo on His tender leaflet like lips, which are for my welfare.]

12) Tasya nartanam-hrutvivartanam, jhaljhalatjhalat-dhvaana paadayoh.

[His dance with the anklets having tiny bells sounding jhaljhalatjhalat sounds, is twisting my heart.]

13) Drushyate mayaa-kah punahpunah, niilarochishaam-raashirujjvalah?

[The shining heap of blue lights in the form of a person is seen by me again and again. Who is He?]

14) Raasakelaye-pinchhamaulaye, maamakam namo-Maadhvaaya te.

[My salutation to You, Madhava, who is engaged in the Raasa game dance with vibrating peacock feather on Your head.]

15) Raadhayaaraho-rudyate sadaa, kvaasi Krishna! me-drushyataamiti.

[Radha is also weeping secretly crying “O my Krishna! where are You? please appear to me”.]

16) Raasagopikaa-mandaleshatam, bhinnamaashraye-madhyagam cha tam.

[In the Raasa game dance, You are split in to hundred Krishnas separately for hundred Gopikaas. At the same time, You are standing in the centre also!]

17) Brahmanaa hrutam-gopagokulam, tvam svayam bhavan-tenavandyase.

[God Brahma (a representative of God Brahma called as actually Prajaapati) stole all the cows and cowherds to test Krishna. Immediately, You became all those lost forms for one year. After one year, God Brahma came and was astonished to see this and bowed to You.]

18) Astu te dayaa-taavakaabhidhe, venunaadavat-chhandasi prabho!

[O Lord! I bear Your name and my flute song is my sweet poetry. Due to these common points, be pleased with me and show kindness on me.]

19)Naaraayaneti marutaa kvanitaapi viinaa,

Yasyoccharatyanishameva guro! Guruunaam,

Devarshi Naarada ! vadoshasi muudha buddheh,

Sa tvam katham mamadrushaam purato mahaatman!

[O preacher of preachers! Divine sage Narada! The strings of your veena (musical instrument) utter the name of Narayana only even though the strings are moved by air! Such holy sage, you, are seen by my eyes in this early morning and I am undeserving of your vision being a stupid mind!]

20)Aho! Te bhaktisuutranaam, bhaashyaayaajnaam dadaasi me,

Nivedayaami chaatmaanam, tamasaamaalayam mune!

[O God! you are ordering me to write commentary on your devotional aphorisms (Bhaktisutras). O Sage! I am the dwelling place of all dark ignorant ideas and hence, I am incompetent to do this holy work (the other meaning is that this epic itself, the dwelling place of all rigid feelings of devotion is a commentary on your Bhaktisutras).]

21)Praanaavashesha samayo mama yaatu kopi,

Pinchhaavatamsa purushasya gunastavena,

Yo  naratayat drumadalaanyapi mandamandam,

Gogopikaabhi rabhitah saha venugaanaih.

[O Divine sage! Let this remaining life, whatever extent it may be, pass on with the prize of divine qualities of that divine person having the peacock feather on head. He made not only the cows and cowherd maidens to dance in mild way with His flute songs, but also, made the leaves of trees to dance in mild way!]

22)Aavatojjvaladiidhitisphutakana shripaanichakrabhramam,

Digdantaavalamurchitadhvanikara shriipaanchajanyonmukham,

Udvellat garudadhvajaankarathikam praagjyotisha prasthitam,

Kimchit chaaru charatyaho! mamapuro maayuurapincham mahah.

[Some divine light having peacock feather with inexplicable beauty is moving before me, which is having a wheel of brilliant sparks moving in circle based on the divine hand, having the divine conch shell on the face liberating horrible sound by which the eight elephants standing on all the eight sides are becoming unconscious, having brilliant flag decorated by the divine figure of Garuda kite on the chariot, which is proceeding towards praagjyotisha city to fight with Narakaasura demon.]

23)Pratyangaayitapallavam dadadiva smeraamrutam chottamam,

Mohinyaa kamalekshana bhramachanam soundaarya vidyunmayam,

Nrutyannishchala marnavam pashupateshchittam cha kallolayat,

Kshiirodanvati kinchidutthitamaho! Naaraayaniiyam mahah.

[Some inexplicable radiation of God Narayana is rising in the ocean of milk in the form of divine beauty called as Mohini, whose every limb is like a tender leaflet, who is donating the smile nectar itself in the beginning, who is rotating her lotus eyes with new style, who is the heap of lightning beauties and who is creating a Tsunami dance in the standstill ocean of mind of God Shiva also!]

24)Ahaha! taavakam lochanadvayam,

Kamalakomalam raagapaatalam,

Taruna! Raadhikaa maarga laalasam,

Mayi vivartitam kimchidastu te.

[O Young man! Your both eyes, tender like lotus flowers, having red colour-love, are always fixed on the path by which Radhaa comes to You. Kindly divert a little bit of that look towards me for a fraction of second.]

25)Kimchidaavalgita griivaa-dhenumadhya purah sthitah,

Vyatyasta charanah koyam, mano madhnaati venunaa?

[Who is this person putting His two legs crossed and standing before the centre of the cow, which bowed its head little down and churning my mind with His flute song?]

26)Dayaarasaantahkaranaardra komalah,

Sudaama sandarshana duhkha vepathuh,

Shrutidrumaanta sthitimaanavekshataam,

Sa maam kshanam vallavavamshapallavah.

[The tender leaflet of Yadava dynasty, situated on the top of the Veda tree (spoken by the Upanishads) may look at me also for a minute, whose mind is already wet by the kindness juice and which is vibrating with terrible grief on seeing His childhood friend called as Sudaama.]

27)Niilorviivyomabhrungadvayamadhubharanaayattapaadaabjayugmam,

Muktaanakshatraraashiikaranatatatanushyaamalasnigdhavaasah,

Aanamram daityamekam kanamiva tamasah ksheptu markaamshuhaasaiah,

Aaho! Shrivaishnavam yat tripada mapadagam jrumbhate jrumbhataam tat.

[Let the body of Shri Vishnu as Vaamana expanding in all the three worlds and about which words fall short in explanation, expand and expand further and further. The two lotus feet of the Lord are nearing the black sky and black earth bees in order to give them the nectar food! The blue body of the Lord is expanding like a blue silk cloth spread in order to bind all the star pearls after making them as a heap! The smile on the face of the Lord looks like a big heap of the radiations of Sun prepared to suppress Bali, the king of demons, who is just looking like a small bit of darkness!]

28)Alam kamalanetrayaa kamalashatrunaachaapyalam,

Sadaashiva virodhinaa kamalasaayakenaapyalam,

Kshanakshana samullasanmadanataataliilaashata-

Smruti trutita bandhanam namata bandhanam chandasaam.

[Enough with the lady having lotus eyes. Enough with the moon, who is the enemy of lotus flowers. Enough with the cupid, who is having lotus flowers as arrows and who is the enemy of God Shiva. Let me bow to these bonded verses in meters, which bring the memory of many plays of the Father of cupid (God Vishnu) that cut all these worldly bonds.]

29)Vande tamaravindaaksham, Govindam Nandanandanam,

Brundaavana vanaananda-mandahaasaamshumandiram.

[I salute the lotus eyed Lord called Govinda, who is the son of Nanda and who is the temple of the lights of smiles of the bliss of Brundavana forest.]

30)Smarasya hi raso  smaabhih, Shrungaarah samagiiyata,

Tattaatah smarataatasya, rasah samprati giiyate.

[I have written several epics in Sanskrit in which the raasa of romance of god cupid was sung well. Today, I am singing the raasa (interest), which is father of romance related to the father of god cupid (god cupid is the son of God Vishnu).]
