Reaching Swami
Shri Venu Gopala Krishnaya Vandanam.
Swami! My hearty salutations to Your lotus feet. I am thankful for this opportunity to share my divine experiences with Your devotees.
In those days, I was an ardent devotee of Shri Shirdi Sai Baba. I used to read many spiritual books and experienced numerous miracles personally. While I was reading the book ‘Sai Sacharitham’, I realized that without a living Sadguru, there is no enlightenment for a devotee. Sadguru alone can help us cross the ocean of worldly miseries and can bless us with eternal happiness. I repented a lot because Shirdi Sai was not alive in the body anymore. Even if Shirdi Sai comes into the same body, I might be scared to approach Him out of fear. I was clueless about how to approach my Sadguru. On 4th July 1999, I was at my uncle's home attending his daughter's wedding and he introduced me to Shri Bheemashankaram Garu, who was the guest on behalf of the bridegroom. I shared with him many miraculous experiences blessed by Shri Shirdi Sai. He shared similar kind of experiences blessed by Shri Nrusimha Saraswathi. I was very happy talking with him. He gave me five copies of a Telugu book named 'Marichipokumu Dattuni Manchi Maata' written by His Holiness Shri Datta Swami. He also advised me to read the book and distribute them as well. Keeping a copy with me, I presented the rest of them to my friends and my uncle.
I started reading the book soon after reaching home and felt an unknown divine joy for three days. My mind started believing strongly that Swami is God. Many questions had struck my mind regarding the spiritual concepts and I wrote a letter to Shri Bheemashankaram Garu requesting him to forward my 20 questions to Shri Venu Gopala Krishna Murthy (Shri Datta Swami). He forwarded my questions to Swami and I received the replies after 4 days. The answers reflected the highest intellect of the highest preacher. I was very much astonished that Swami sent hand-written replies to me. Swami wrote that God Datta is capable of answering any question. After reading the answers, I was reassured that Swami is God Datta Himself and He can clarify any kinds of doubts. Swami also sent me a book written by Shri Satya Sai which said that Shri Satya Sai Baba is none other than Shri Shirdi Sai Baba.
I had a confusion if my Sadguru is Shri Satya Sai or Shri Datta Swami or someone else. As a habit, I put three chits, with names of three different living Sadgurus, in front of the idol of Shirdi Sai Baba. I randomly chose a chit and consider it as the choice of God for me. I put the chits thrice and Shri Datta Swami’s chit was being selected all the three times. This is my first miracle from Swami. Thereafter, Swami often appeared in my dreams with a covered face, red shawl on His shoulders and cream coloured dhoti followed by four dogs. I used to run behind Him saying “Guru Deva, Guru Deva” but He used to escape by saying that He was not my Guru Deva. I was phobic about snakes and Phani Swami used to throw snakes at me in my dreams. The face of Lord Krishna which appeared in my dream was exactly as that of the Krishna image printed on the Geeta Makarandam book. When Shirdi Sai appeared in my dreams, the voice of Shri Shirdi Sai was identical with the voice of Shri Datta Swami. Sometimes, Lord Krishna used to appear wrapping small handkerchiefs around His wrist which we can observe with Shri Datta Swami also. Akkalkot Maharaj had come in my dream and put sacred ash on my door sill. On an early morning, I observed a miraculous change in the idol of Shri Shirdi Sai Baba. One eye appeared to have opened with black eyeball in it. On an auspicious day of Shiva Ratri, I did abhishekam to the idol of Baba by chanting DattaShivaPanchakshari written by Swami. Immediately, the second eye also opened showing the black eyeball in it. I assumed that it appeared like that because I am not cleaning it well. When I showed this to other people, some believed it as a miracle and some refused to believe so. No matter how many times I clean the idol, even now it appears as if Baba is looking straight at me.
I strongly believe that Shri Datta Swami is none other than my Shirdi Sai. With firm faith, I approached Shri Datta Swami to accept me as His disciple. Our kindest Swami ordered me to compose devotional songs based on His divine knowledge and submit the recordings to Him.
I feel that meeting our Sadguru is the highest miracle of our lives. There may be many preachers or Gurus of spiritual knowledge but it is the highest boon to get God Himself as our Sadguru. Swami took the human form to mingle with us freely and uplift us with His teachings. Observing the austere family life of Swami will give us many lessons to learn. Swami worked as a science professor to maintain His family and propagated Spiritual Knowledge to devotees during rest of the time. Swami led a simple and devoted life. Although Swami Himself is God, Swami’s life is a classic example of how a devotee should live balancing one’s worldly life (Pravrutti) and spiritual life (Nivrutti). Swami practices what He teaches to us. Swami’s Pravrutti life teaches us to follow justice in worldly life without attachment to the world just like a water bead on the lotus leaf. Swami’s Nivrutti life teaches us that God alone should be our goal of life, God’s happiness is our happiness, God’s service is the purpose of our life and God is all-in-all. Swami with highest intellect is enlightening our minds by clarifying all our doubts through His Prajnaanam (Excellent Spiritual Knowledge). Every miracle performed by Swami proves the divine nature of Swami. Every divine song composed by Swami instils devotion in the heart of a devotee. Like this, every action done by Swami proves that Swami is the Unimaginable God (Parabrahman). Even if we do penance for thousands of births, we cannot see or understand unimaginable God. The same unimaginable God has given Himself to us in the form of our Swami. Isn’t it a proof that Swami is an ocean of love? What can be a bigger miracle than this?
Without the grace of Swami, we cannot recognize that Swami Himself is God. Complete faith comes only after complete digestion of true spiritual knowledge. With my personal experience, I can tell that we cannot understand the complete nature of Swami even by staying in close association with Swami. It is not easy to pass the severe tests of Swami. Even if we fail due to lack of faith, the kindest Swami won’t abandon us. If we hold on His feet and try to follow Him sincerely, He enlightens our mind and blesses us to experience His divine love (Narayana Swaroopa). I feel that Swami has blessed me with such experience. I am not telling that we would understand God completely by this experience. Swami not only blessed us by coming to us in human form but also blessed us by giving the power of mind to identify His kindness, witness His miracles and share our experiences with others. Isn’t it a miracle to tell everyone that we have seen the Unimaginable God in human form? We are so happy thinking that we know Swami. Swami being the divine father who has revealed Himself to us, His children, is seeing our happy faces, silently listening to us, praising us, witnessing our minds and blessing us. Isn’t this a miracle by itself?

I stayed in a city (Ramachandrapuram) far from Vijayawada. In the year 2000, I phoned to Swami at 11am on a morning. While singing the divine song ‘Nandana! O Nandana!’, Swami said that we should leave the fascinations for Asta Sidhis and Miracles because they would lead us to do sins. I replied, “Swami, if You don’t like to show me any miracles, I request You to show a miracle to some other devotee and let that devotee narrate it to me.” At that time, Swami was staying in Shri Bheemashankaram Garu’s house. Mrs. Padma Prabhakar was staying the adjacent house and her sister Mrs. Ramaa had arrived from Hyderabad at that moment. She looked at Swami while walking into the house and observed a radiating wheel behind Swami’s head. She was shocked seeing the wheel and shivered with fear. She was afraid to even see the face of Swami during the entire Satsanga and Bhajan session that happened. When her sister enquired her why she was so afraid, she revealed the entire miracle. At the same time, Bhargavi, the niece of Swami, was near a lady devotee possessed by a deity named ‘Neelampati Shri Lakshmi Ammavaru’ at the native place of Swami. The possessed lady said to Bhargavi, “O niece of VishnuChakraKumaara (Vishnu Chakra Kumaruni menakodala)! Today, Your Uncle showed His radiating five coloured Vishnu Chakra to a devotee in Vijayawada”. She explained the entire incident to Bhargavi. This divine miracle of Swami had proved to Swami’s family members that Swami is God Himself. It fulfilled my desire to listen to the miracle from the devotee and for Mrs.Ramaa, it was the fruit of her worship from previous births to watch the divine Vishnu Chakra of God.
Shri Phani Swami made Mrs. Ramaa phone to me at around 3pm and she narrated the entire miracle. I felt very happy. Bhargavi, Swami’s niece, had phoned to Swami and said, “You always show miracles to devotees of Vijayawada only. I am Your niece. Why don’t You show a miracle to me?”. Swami jokingly replied, “How can I see something which is behind My head? As I turned back My head to see the VishnuChakra, it was coming behind My head! How can I show it to you when I Myself cannot see?”. After witnessing that miracle, I never asked Swami for another miracle. But our kindest Swami has never stopped showing His miracles. I say with humbleness that we are able to see the divine kindness of Swami only because Swami has removed the two cataracts of ego and jealousy from our eyes and no soul can achieve this by self-effort alone. After realising the truth, we should silently enjoy the divine play of God. If we start thinking that we learnt everything and we are the doers, our ego will come back again and we would certainly go far away from God.

స్వామీ, మీపాదపద్మములకు హృదయపూర్వక నమస్కారములు. భక్తులతో నా ఆధ్యాత్మిక అనుభవములు పంచుకునే అవకాశము ఇచ్చినందులకు ధన్యవాదములు.

స్వామితో తొలిపరిచయం:
నేను శ్రీ శిరిడీసాయిని పూజిస్తున్నరోజులవి. ఎన్నో దివ్యగ్రంధాలు చదివి బాబా అపారకరుణను ప్రతక్ష్యంగా అనుభవిస్తూ సాయి సచ్ఛరిత్రము చదువుతుండగా “గురువులేనివిద్య గుడ్డివిద్య” యని సద్గురు అనుగ్రహమువలననే ఈ సంసారసాగరమును దాటగలమని, వారి అనుగ్రహమే సర్వమును ప్రసాదించునని బాబాచెప్పిన వాక్యాలు తలచుకుంటూ బాబా సశరీరముతో లేరు ఒకవేళ నాకు కనిపించినా పిరికితనంతో భయపడతానేమో నేను ఏసద్గురువును ఆశ్రయించాలి అని అనుకుంటున్న తరుణంలో 1999 వసంవత్సరం 4-7-99 వతేదీన మా పినమావగారమ్మాయి వివాహానికి వెళ్ళాము. ఆవివాహంలో పెళ్ళికొడుకు తరఫున హాజరైన శ్రీ భీమశంకరంగారిఫ్యామిలీతో ఆధ్యాత్మిక అనుబంధం ఏర్పడింది. నేను శిరిడీసాయిబాబా వారి అనుభవాలు, వారు నృసింహసరస్వతివారి అనుభవాలు పరస్పరం ముచ్చటించుకున్నాము. శ్రీదత్తస్వామివారి ప్రేరణతో వారు నాకు “ మరచిపోకుము దత్తుని మంచిమాట” అనే పుస్తకములు 5 నా చేతిలో ఉంచి నన్ను చదివి మరికొందరికి వాటిని ఈయమని చెప్పారు. నేను నాస్నేహితులకు మా పినమావగారికి ఇచ్చి ఒకటి నేను ఉంచుకున్నాను. నాకు వారి పరిచయంతో ఎంతో ఆనందం కలిగింది. ఇంటికి రాగానే ఆపుస్తకం చదవటం మొదలుపెట్టాను. నాకు తెలీని ఏదో ఒక దివ్యానుభూతికి లోనయ్యాను. అలా మూడురోజులు అదే స్ధితిలో ఉన్నాను. నాలో అనేక ప్రశ్నలు ఉత్పన్నమయ్యాయి. వాటికి సమాధానం శ్రీ వేణుగోపాలకృష్ణమూర్తిగారే ఈయగలరనిపించింది. ఆయనే భగవంతుడని నా మనసు నన్ను హెచ్చరించటంతో ఒక 20 ప్రశ్నలు వ్రాసి మీ ఇంటికి వచ్చిన వారిని వీటికి బదులివ్వమని అర్ధిస్తున్నానని శ్రీ భీమశంకరం గారికి లేఖ వ్రాయటం జరిగింది.
4 రోజులకు నాకు జవాబు వచ్చింది. “సర్వసంశయములు దీర్ప సంసిద్ధుడీ గురుదత్తభగవానుడు” అంటూ నాప్రశ్నలకు శ్రీదత్తస్వామివారు స్వయముగా ఓపికగావారే లేఖ వ్రాశారు. కొందరు శిరిడిసాయి అవతారమే సత్యసాయి అని వారిని మనసులో గురువుగా భావించిన చాలునని ప్రత్యక్షముగా కలువనవసరంలేదని సత్యసాయి బాబా వారు వ్రాసిన గ్రంధములు నాకు ఇచ్చారు. నాకు బాబా ముందు మూడుసార్లు చీటీలు వేసి నాప్రశ్నకు సమాధానం అడగటం అలవాటు. అదేవిధంగా నేను శ్రీ వేణుగోపాలకృష్ణమూర్తి, సత్యసాయి, మరొకరి పేరు వ్రాసి 3 సార్లు చీటీలు తీయగా 3 సార్లు శ్రీ వేణుగోపాలకృష్ణమూర్తిగారి పేరే బాబా సూచించారు. ఆ రోజు మొదలు స్వామి స్వప్నములలోతన ముఖము కనపడనీయక ఎర్రనిశాలువ క్రప్పుకుని క్రీము కలర్ పంచె కట్టుకుని కుక్కలతో కనపడేవారు. గురుదేవ గురుదేవ అంటూ వెంటపడుతుంటే నేను నీగురువును కాను అంటూ తప్పించుకునేవారు.నాకు పాములంటేభయం. ఫణిస్వామి కలలో నాపైకి పాములు విసిరేవాడు.గీతామకరందం అనే గ్రంధం అట్టపై నున్న ముఖచిత్రంలోని కృష్ణుడు కనిపించేవారు. శిరిడీసాయికి నమస్కరిస్తే వారి స్వరం దత్తస్వామి స్వరంలా అనిపించేది. కృష్ణుడు చిన్న చిన్న చేతి రుమాలు గుడ్డలను చుట్టుతూ కనపడేవారు. అక్కల్ కోట మహారాజు గారు కలలో కనపడి
మా ఇంటి గడపపై విభూతి కుమ్మరించారు. ఒక తెల్లవారుఝామున. మా ఇంటిలోని శిరిడీసాయి విగ్రహం ఒక కన్ను నల్లని గుడ్డుతో తెరచినట్లు అనిపించింది. ఒక శివరాత్రి పర్వదినాన స్వామి వ్రాసిన దత్తశివపంచాక్షరితో బాబాను అభిషేకించగా రెండవనేత్రము కూడా నల్లని గుడ్డుతో ప్రకాశించింది. ఆ విగ్రహాన్ని నేను సరిగా శుభ్రపరచక అలా కనిపిస్తోందనిఅనుకుని అందరికీ చూపించేదాన్ని. కొందరు నిజమేనని, కొందరు మాకేమీ తెలీటం లేదని అనేవారు. ఎన్నిసార్లు తోమినా మరల స్వామివారు నన్ను చూస్తున్నట్లు ఇప్పటికీ అలాగే కనిపిస్తుంది.
శ్రీదత్తస్వామియే సద్గురుసాయి అన్న స్ధిరవిశ్వాసముతో స్వామిని అడిగాను శిష్యురాలిగా స్వీకరించమని. స్వామి ఆరోజు మొదలు వారి జ్ఞానమును భక్తిగంగ గీతములుగా వ్రాసి వాటిని సిడిలలో భద్రపరచి తనకీయమని ఆదేశించారు.
నరావతారములో భగవంతుడు సద్గురువుగా మనకు లభించుటే మనందరి జీవితాలలో సత్యమైన మహిమయని నేను భావిస్తున్నాను. మీరు కూడా ఏకీభవిస్తారని అనుకుంటున్నాను. సద్గురువులు ఎందరో ఉండి ఉండవచ్చు . కానీ భగవంతుడే సద్గురువుగా లభించటము అనునది భగవంతుడు మనకు దయతో ప్రసాదించిన వరం.
మర్త్యులమైన మనకోసం , మర్త్యునిగ మన మధ్యనే మసలుతూ , తన జీవితమునే మనకు సందేశముగా అందిస్తూ, సంసారిగా తనబాధ్యతలు తాను నిర్వర్తిస్తూ ,సర్వకాలసర్వావస్ధలయందు పరబ్రహ్మమునందే నిష్ఠ కలిగి తాను ఆచరించునదే మనకు చెబుతూ ,గీతలో బోధించినట్లు తామరాకుపై నీటిబొట్టులా దేనిని అంటని మనస్సుతో ,మనందరము ఏవిధంగా ప్రవృత్తిలో ధర్మబద్ధంగా జీవించాలో, నివృత్తిలో పరమాత్మయే ఏకైక లక్ష్యమని, ఆయనే సర్వస్వమని , స్వామి సంతోషమే మన సంతోషమని, స్వామి సేవయే పరమార్ధమని, ఆవిధంగా, సమర్ధవంతముగా ఎలా ఆచరణాత్మక జీవనాన్ని గడపాలో తన ఆచరణద్వారా తెలుపుతూ, మన సర్వ సంశయాలు దీర్చే సర్వసమర్ధుడైన సద్గురువుగా వెలుగొందుతూ ,మహిమా ప్రదర్శనము ద్వారా తన దైవత్వమును వెల్లడిచేయుచూ, భజన గీతాలతో భక్తిని ఎదఎదలో నింపుతూ , తన ప్రజ్ఞానము ద్వారా స్వామి తాను సాక్షాత్తూ పరబ్రహ్మమని మనకు తెలియజేస్తున్నారు. కోట్ల జన్మలు తపించినా అగుపించని, అర్ధము కాని పరతత్త్వము మనకు ఈ రూపముగా దత్తమగుట, స్వామి అపార ప్రేమసముద్రుడని నిరూపితమగుచున్నది కదా! ఇంతకు మించిన మహిమ మరేమున్నది? అయితే వారి అనుగ్రహము లేనిదే వారి దివ్యత్వమును మనము గ్రహించలేము. ఉద్ధరణ పరిపూర్ణమైతే గాని
ఎదుటనున్నది పరబ్రహ్మమని గ్రహించలేము. పరిపూర్ణ జ్ఞానులము కాము గుర్తించుటకు. చెంత చేరినంతమాత్రాన స్వామి తత్త్వము మనకు అవగతము కాదు. వారు పెట్టే త్రివిధ పరీక్షలలో ఏ క్షణమైనా మనము ఓడిపోవచ్చు. ఓడిన కొద్దీ అనుభవాన్ని జ్ఞానాన్ని వృద్ధి చేస్తూ ఆయనే మన పరమగమ్యమని తెలుసుకున్నప్పుడు ఆయనే మన బుద్ధి పద్మాలను వికసింపచేసి తన నారాయణస్వరూపాన్ని మనకు దర్శింపచేస్తారు. అట్టి సత్యదర్శనమును స్వామి ఇచ్చారని, భావిస్తున్నాను. అంతమాత్రాన స్వామి తత్త్వము అర్ధమైనదని చెప్పటం లేదు. మీరందరూ కూడా స్వామి కరుణను గుర్తిస్తూమహిమగా తిలకిస్తూ అందరితో మీ అనుభవాలను పంచుకోగలుగుతున్నారు అంటే ఆ గుర్తించే శక్తిని కూడా మనకు స్వామి అందించి తాను నరుడను కాను నారాయణుడనని అనూహ్యమైన తాను ఊహ్యమై మన ఎదురుగా ఉన్నానని తెలుపుట అత్యద్భుతమహిమ కాదా? మనము తెలుసుకున్నామని మురిసిపోతుంటే తెలియజెప్పిన లోకాలగన్నతండ్రి తనపిల్లల ముఖాలలోని సంతోషాన్ని తిలకించుటకు మౌనంగా వింటూ బాగుంది బాగుంది అని ప్రశసించి దీవించటము మన భావోద్వేగాలను సాక్షియై వీక్షించటము మహిమ ప్రదర్శనమే కదా!

ఈ జీవునకు ఒక అవకాశమిచ్చారు. చెబుతున్నాను 2000 వసంవత్సరములో స్వామి ఒకరోజు ఉదయం11 గంటలసమయంలో స్వామి నాతో ఫోనులో సంభాషిస్తూ” అష్టసిద్ధులను భ్రమలను వీడుము. పాపలకే కదా! మహిమలు వింతలు “ అంటూ నందనా! ఓ నందనా! అనే గీతాన్ని పాడి వినిపించగా, స్వామీ నాకు మహిమలు చూపటం ఇష్టం లేకుంటే మరెవరికైనా చూపి, నాకు వారికి ప్రదర్శించిన మహిమను తెలుపమనండి అని కోరాను. అదే సమయానికి శ్రీ భీమశంకరం గారి ఇంటిలో ప్రక్కవాటాలో అద్దెకు ఉంటున్న పద్మాప్రభాకర్ గారి మరదలు రమ గారు హైదరాబాదు నుండి రావటం , లోపలికి వస్తూ స్వామిని చూడటం జరిగింది. స్వామి తలవెనుక దివ్యకాంతులు వెదజల్లుతున్న చక్రాన్ని తిలకించి ఆమె ఆశ్చర్యముతో ఒక విధమైన షాకులో ఉండిపోయారు. సత్సంగము, భజన చేస్తున్న సమయంలో ఆమె స్వామికేసి చూడటానికే భయపడుతుంటే వారి సోదరి నెమ్మదిగా విషయం తెలుసుకుని అందరికీ చెప్పటం జరిగింది. అదే సమయంలో నరసరావుపేటలో స్వామి మేనకోడలు భార్గవి, నీలంపాటి శ్రీలక్ష్మీ అమ్మవారు ఆవేశించే ఒక భక్తుని ఇంటికి వెళ్ళగా వారు భార్గవితో “విష్ణుచక్ర కుమారుని మేనకోడలా! ఈరోజు మీ మామయ్య స్వామి తన తల చుట్టూ తిరుగు పంచరంగుల విష్ణు చక్రమును విజయవాడలో ఒక భక్తురాలికి చూపించినారు” అని స్వామి గురించి చెబుతూ ఈ దృశ్యమును గురించి వివరించటం జరిగింది. ఒకే సమయంలో స్వామి తన కుటుంబసభ్యులకు స్వామియని, ఆ భక్తుని ద్వారా తెలుపుట, రమగారి పూర్వజన్మ సుకృతము ననుసరించి ఆమెకు దివ్యకాంతులు విరజిమ్మే ఆ విష్ణుచక్రమును చూపించటం, నా అభ్యర్ధన మేరకు ఆ మహిమను ప్రదర్శించటము జరిగింది. ఆ రోజు మధ్యాహ్నం 3 గంటలకు ఫణిస్వామి ఫోను చేసి రమగారి చేత స్వయముగా జరిగినది నాకు చెప్పటంతో నేను ఎంతో ఆనందాన్నిపొందాను. స్వామి మేనకోడలు భార్గవి స్వామికి ఫోను చేసి “నీవు ఎప్పుడూ విజయవాడ భక్తులకే మహిమను చూపిస్తావు. నేను నీ మేనకోడలును. నాకు ఎందుకు మహిమలను చూపించవు?” అని అడగగా స్వామి ఇలా వేళాకోళంగా బదులిచ్చారట. “ఆ విష్ణు చక్రమును చూడాలని నేను తల వెనుకకు తిప్పగా, అది నా తలవెనుకకు వచ్చినది. నాకే అది కనపడలేదు. నీకేమి చూపించగలను”అని. ఆ తరువాత ఎన్నడూ నేను స్వామినుండి మహిమ ప్రదర్శనమును ఆశించలేదు. కానీ స్వామి తన దివ్యత్వమును ప్రదర్శిస్తూనే ఉన్నారు. అసూయ అహంకారములనే కంటిపొరలను తొలగించి జ్ఞానాంజనమును కనులకు పెట్టుట ద్వారా మాత్రమే, సర్వమూ స్వామి అపార కరుణాప్రవాహమే గాని రవ్వంతయిననూ, స్వతహాగ ఈ జీవుడు తెలుసుకున్నది, తెలుసుకుంటున్నది ఏదీ లేదని సవినయముగా మనవిచేసుకుంటున్నాను. సత్యాన్ని దర్శింపచేసిన తరువాత దివ్యత్వాన్ని మౌనంగా వీక్షించటం చేయగలమే గాని నేను సర్వము తెలుసుకున్నాను నేను అంతా చేస్తున్నాను అనుకోవటం మరల అహంకారమును ఆవాహన చేసుకుని పరమాత్మకుదూరం కావటమే జరుగుతుంది. ఇందరు మహాయోగ్యులైన భక్త, శిష్యులమధ్య ఎట్టి యోగ్యతలేని నాకు స్ధానం కలిపించి, నన్నుద్ధరించినందుకు స్వామీ! కృతజ్ఞతతో, మీ పాదపద్మములకు మనఃపూర్వక వినయ ప్రణామములు తెలుపుకుంటున్నాను. 🙏🙏🙏
