Swami Answers Devotees' Questions

1. Is God capable of experiencing grief?

[A devotee’s question brought to Swāmi by Śrī Anil]

Swāmi replied: O Learned and Devoted Servants of God! God is omnipotent and is capable of experiencing anything He likes. As such, even human beings cannot relish the experience of happiness without experiencing grief. After eating a hot dish, the sweet dish is greatly relished.

2. Is it impossible to please God?

[A devotee’s question brought to Swāmi by Śrī Anil]

Swāmi replied: If you are unable to please God even when it is possible for you to please God, it is indeed impossible for you to please God! God never aspires for you to please Him in a way which is impossible for you.

3. Does God really care about us? Does He love us for real?

[A devotee’s question brought to Swāmi by Śrī Anil]

Swāmi replied: I question the person who asked this question to Me in return. My question is, “Are you satisfied if I simply say ‘Yes’ or do you need an elaborate explanation?” As such the answer is that God cares a lot for us and His love for us is the climax of reality.

4. Why does God who is beyond time need entertainment to pass His time?

[Śrī Anil asked: A person I met on the internet has objected to the concept that God created the universe for His own entertainment. He argued that if time cannot affect God, or if God is beyond time, then He will not need any entertainment to pass His time. Swāmi, can You please give a response to it?]

Swāmi replied: The entertainment needed by a person does not require a time-concept in the beginning. When you are bored with some continuous and tedious subject, you desire a change, which provides some relaxation and entertainment. At that time, you do not desire the specification of time or the period of the entertainment. At the outset, you simply want entertainment. After having experienced the entertainment, based on the quality of the entertainment, you will think about having the entertainment for some more time. Hence, the concept of time does not come in the beginning the entertainment.
