What should I do, if I have consumed non-vegetarian food after avoiding it for a couple of years?

[Ms. Amudha asked: I'm sorry Swamiji, I did huge mistake. Kindly help me to refrain from it in the future. Also please suggest what action should I take now. Based on Your knowledge, I understand that eating non-vegetarian is wrong because it involves hurting other living being for sake of food and so, it is sin. I was able to avoid it and had stopped eating it for a couple of years because of Your grace. But yesterday, Goddess Amma told to consume the non-vegetarian food. She conveyed it to me through a person possessed by Her. I have respect and believe this person’s word so I was in a state of confusion. I was in a situation where I had a choice to consume it or not. I had thought to say no and remained silent. But I was not able to say no because of Amma’s words. I was confused to say no and so I consumed it. Swami, while having it, You know Swami how I felt. I am incapable of everything and I am afraid to do anything now. I doubt myself now. Am I really following Your knowledge? Am I eligible to be at Your divine feet? Swami, I am sorry. I feel bad about myself.]

Swami replied: Spiritual knowledge always says that eating non-vegetarian food is the highest sin. The sin is not in the food itself, but it is in the killing of soft-natured animals. God came as Buddha and Ṛṣabhadeva (Jainism) and preached a lot about this. Along with the realization of this spiritual concept, I also find repentance in you. The only step that remains is the non-repetition of the sin in the future.
