When we try to analyze anything in the world, including the soul, does it not become inexplicable and unimaginable, beyond a point?

[An online spiritual discussion was conducted on January 16, 2021, in which several devotees participated. Some of the questions of devotees answered by Swāmi are given below.]

[Śrī Ganesh asked: A few days ago, I had a doubt, which I discussed with Dr. Nikhil. When I try to analyze what exactly a soul is, I am unable to find the answer. Even the soul seems to be as unimaginable as the unimaginable God to me. Everything in this world seems to be unimaginable, when we ask deeper questions and try to analyze it in depth. So, is the soul and creation also not unimaginable?

Dr. Nikhil said: Ganesh’s point was that, even if we take an atom and start analyzing it by asking a question “What is it made of?”, we reach upto the smallest subatomic particles and then, beyond a point, it seems impossible to know anything further. Similarly, when we analyze an ordinary soul, we do not really know it completely. Hence, Ganesh says that everything, when analyzed to a very deep level, will lead us to unimaginability.]

Swāmi replied: God is certainly unimaginable, whereas, His creation contains both imaginable and unimaginable items. Except for miracles, all items within creation are imaginable. Scientists clearly say that matter is condensed energy. Hence, the ultimate sub-atomic particles in an atom must be condensed energy. The formula indicating the condensation of energy into matter is also given by scientists as, E = mc². Even the quantitative equivalence between matter and energy is explained by this formula. When our intelligence is not sharp, even some imaginable items may appear to be unimaginable items. In reality, such apparently-unimaginable items are only imaginable items. It is just that they are understood only after great effort. They are not really unimaginable. They appear unimaginable only for some people, who lack the strength of intelligence and analysis. Other than miracles, all created items are well-explained by science and even through practical experiments. For the people of older generations, some such items might have appeared to be unimaginable, due to the lack of scientific development.
