Speeches of Shri Datta Swami In First World Parliament On Spirituality Part-8

62) Service Needed:-

Service needed is important whether you do it to God or to humanity (‘serve the needy’). Needed materials shall be served to poor if they are not reformed through spiritual knowledge since money may be wasted through vices by which they are caught. When you serve your preacher, who is not having vices, you can serve him with money since you don’t know his actual need. When God Rama is sitting on the sea shore worried about the construction of bridge on sea, you shall help Him in giving proper advice to remove this worry and make Him happy. Instead, if you burn 100 grams of camphor in a plate and move it circularly before His face, what is the use of it? Moreover, it will harm His health! He is already suffering with cold due to the moist air and this camphor-smoke given by you causes allergy resulting in cough! Your service must be related to the need of the time. In the forest, when Rama visited the huts of sages, they worshiped with all 16 modes (giving seat, giving water to wash feet and hands, giving water for bath, giving cloths and threads for cross belt, worship with flowers, lit oil lamp, burning scented fume sticks, giving meals etc.,). Even though Rama was very hungry, He had to wait till all the prior modes of worship are finished. But, when He went to the hut of Shabari, seeing Rama with hungry face, she immediately offered Him fruits, tested by biting with teeth for their sweet taste! Rama was highly pleased with her. When the finger of Krishna was cut by a sugar cane while eating it, all the eight wives ran in search of a piece of cloth for the bandage. Draupadi tore her costly sari and with the help of a piece of the sari, she served Krishna immediately, attending the need. Hence, the life of sacrifice is serving the need.

63) How to Identify Human Incarnation?:-

The main purpose of God in human form is to give right direction in worldly life (Pravrutti) and spiritual life (Nivrutti) for the humanity, which is very very important. All the efforts are wasted if the direction is wrong and the post of Director is very important in any institution since he gives right direction to all for its success. The right direction is always given by the true spiritual knowledge enlightened with perfect analysis in all directions. The identification must be related to serve your important need. Hence, the Veda says that the only identification is the excellent spiritual knowledge (Prajnaanam), which is true (Satyam) and elaborate due to perfect analysis (Anantam). The Gita also says that God will enter directly in preaching spiritual knowledge (Jnaaniitvaatmaiva), which is very delicate and can be easily twisted for misinterpretation.

You need not worry about other defects found in Him since such defects in human form of God have their own program like repelling undeserving devotees, becoming close to defective people for their uplift, testing the faith of true devotees etc. Even if the preacher is a human being only, you need not worry about his defects since he will be punished by nature or God for his defects. You have approached a doctor for the cure of disease in your lungs. The doctor advised you to stop smoking immediately. The doctor is also observed by you while smoking. You shall not reject the doctor and his advice saying that how a doctor, himself smoking, advice you to stop smoking! The doctor will be punished by the laws of nature for his smoking and he shall be worried more about it being a doctor! Why shall you spoil your health by leaving that doctor, who is an excellent specialist for lungs? Perhaps, you are telling like this to continue your smoking!

The Veda also speaks about two other identifications by saying that i) God is embodiment of love (Raso vai sah) in order to encourage the devotion of devotees and ii) God can do any miracle (Satyakaamah) to give proof to atheist if He feels that he can be reformed by a miracle. A demon does miracles to project himself with ego and such miracle is also from the grace of God only expressed for his rigid devotion. A cheat does false miracles or magic to impress innocent devotees to cheat them. These two wrong sides are absent in God. He does miracles often to help spiritual progress of deserving devotees and not for His self-projection in fame and not for cheating the innocent devotees.

64) Fine Arts:-

Fine arts are special talents given by God to a human being. Fine arts can please the heart of anybody including God. If you apply the fine arts given to you by God for the sake of projecting the greatness of God, God is doubly pleased. It is also your fundamental responsibility to express gratefulness to God for achieving the fine arts from the grace of God only. Some people dedicate their fine arts to worldly side only, forgetting God without gratefulness. It is said that every sin can be rectified, but not the sin of ungratefulness! With the help of specially talented fine arts, God can be worshipped in special ways, which will immensely please God. The best definition for sin (Paapam) and merit (punyam) is:- making God furious is sin and pleasing God is merit as said in the Shri Krishna Bhagavatam composed by Me (Hareh kopakaram paapam, punyam tasya priyapradam). God Krishna pleased Gopikas through His sweet songs on flute and Gopikas in return pleased Krishna by dancing with Him in Brundavanam. Fine arts are expressed from both God and devotees resulting in Infinite Ocean of bliss! Shankara also wrote several prayers on God through beautiful poetry, which is also a fine art.

65) Females Were Suppressed in Hinduism:-

In the ancient time of sages, females were treated on par with males in all aspects. Females were great scholars like Maitreyi, Gargii, Sulabhaa Yoginii etc. The upanayanam ritual was conducted for females also (puraakalpetu naariinaam, maunjii bandhanamishyate). They were given equal share of property (manuh putrebhyo daayamadaat— Veda) since the word ‘putra’ means both son and daughter as per grammar (ekasheshasuutra). Disparity in giving property was not shown based on gender, which was compulsory general rule or Dharma (Exceptional rule by showing disparity based on the difference in financial positions of issues is allowed as Vishesha or Aapat Dharma.).

After this pious era, a dark era of blind tape recorder-priests came in Hinduism. Due to lack of knowledge in Pravrutti and Nivrutti, these priests established wrong traditions with selfishness and ego for gender. They said that property shall be only for male issues, who alone can do the death rituals and not females. To achieve this fruit of sin, they debarred females from the ritual of upanayanam saying that eligibility to read the Veda or to do any ritual comes only after upanayanam in which only Gayatri hymn can be received! Even though, they have done all this for the sake of wealth, thank God that the real Gayatri (singing sweet songs on God) and by that becoming close to God (real upanayanam) remained with females only since the false sense of Gayatri and Upanayanam were only snatched from females.

Actually, the three threads of the daughter are given to the son-in-law in the marriage so that half of the merit of Gayatri done by husband comes to his wife in view that half of the food cooked by wife is taken by the husband. This is exchange process made by sages only since both husband and wife are eligible for the real Gayatri. This exchange is forgotten and the females were thought to be non-eligible for Gayatri, the Veda and doing rituals by which their right for property was lost as explained above.

66) Untouchables:-

Untouchables are not mentioned in the Veda as the fifth caste. The extreme sinners of all the four castes were boycotted by the society and these sinners were living far from the society. The extreme sins were killing cows and buffalos after using their milk and killing bulls after using them in agriculture in their old age for non-vegetarian food. Thank God that the retired employees are not killed! It is like debarring an indiscipline student from school or college so that reformation can come in the student as early as possible. Punishment is always for reformation only and not for revenge. This means that the untouchables shall be admitted back on their reformation. Their issues need not be untouchables for their sins. Shabari was untouchable, but, Rama ate the fruits bitten by her. The hunter was untouchable, but, was given highest salvation by God Shiva. The photos of these untouchable devotees exist in the prayer rooms of all Hindus. Any sinner of any caste can be boycotted as untouchable for the sake of early reformation and the issue of untouchable can’t be untouchable without doing the sin. Untouchable is confined to an individual doing extreme sin and is not confined to a caste, especially when any caste is not by birth and is only by qualities and deeds. Shankara fell on the feet of an untouchable, unable to answer his question, accepting him as His preacher!

A female of any caste is considered to be untouchable for four days of her menstrual cycle. The scripture says that the sin generated in killing the demon Vrutra by Indra was divided equally in to four parts:- i) odour of earth, ii) foam of water, iii) pollination-grains of flowers and iv) blood of bleeding in the menstrual cycle of females. When earth, water and flowers are always pious for the worship of God, how females in the menstrual cycle alone can become impure and untouchable? This is Arthavaada, which is a lie for some good purpose. A lady in the menstrual cycle is a patient with bleeding, who needs rest in those four days. The forced rest was implemented on her in disguise of untouchable concept. Similarly, a sinner belonging to any caste was considered as untouchable for the sake of reformation (not for revenge) and hence, it has no link with the concept of caste by birth. Hence, caste of untouchables doesn’t exist at all.
