Is walking after eating food good for health?

[Prof. J.S.R. Prasad asked:- Sāṣṭāṅga Namaskāraṃ Swami. Recently, I heard that walking immediately after taking food is very good as per the latest reports of medical science. Kindly give Your comments. -At Your divine holy lotus feet]

Swami replied:- There is a popular English saying that one must rest after lunch and walk after dinner. The latest scientific research shows that the above saying is wrong and walking immediately after taking food whether it is lunch or dinner is good. There is a famous saying in Ayurveda that one shall walk for some time after taking food, whether it is lunch or dinner. In My book, Datta Vedam, I have given some secrets about maintaining overall health, which are that one should eat food that is suitable to his/her health and the food should be cooked well so that all bacteria in the food is dead, one should walk for some time after taking food, one should lie down by the left side on the bed, one should not control urine and excretion for long time and one should have control on sex —

Hitabhuk, hutabhuk, mitabhuk,
katipaya-pada-caṅkramaṇaḥ |
paścācca vāmaśayanaḥ
Anibaddha mūtrapurīṣaḥ,
strīṣu yo jāgarti, so'ruk ||.

Such a person will not get any illness. By walking for at least 30 minutes after taking food, the sugar will not be released into blood from the digestive system and this avoids the increase in blood sugar called Diabetes, which is not just a disease, but the source of all diseases.
