How can I overcome the tension I am facing related to worldly life?

[Ms. Mohini asked: I am feeling a lot of tension and everything seems to be negative for me. I’m thinking about my career and cannot concentrate on spiritual knowledge. There is so much pressure on me, from my parents, family and friends. What can I do, Swami? Please give me some suggestions on how to face this situation. At Your feet. Mohini.]

Swami replied: O Learned and Devoted Servants of God! Do not be so anxious. Due to anxiety, the lactic acid level in your blood may rise by more than 30%, resulting in chronic diseases. Be quiet and calm. The sky is not going to crash on you alone. Do not bother about materialistic things. They are just illusory. A person developed a lot of tension in order to make a lot of materialistic progress. He is the biggest fool because he was not able to carry even a bit of it along with him when he died. The wealth accumulated by him and passed on to his children spoiled his children and got wasted. On the other hand, think about the person, who remained quiet, calm and happy throughout his life and earned little material things. He passed away with a mind that was an ocean of peace and bliss. The children of that person got only a little wealth from him. But they earned a lot due to their good luck. Both these persons are within the realm of normal pravṛtti alone. The former soul is like the student who passed third class, whereas, the latter soul is the student who passed second class. Now take the case of the soul belonging to nivṛtti, who is the student passing first class. He did not earn much. He just earned enough to meet his basic needs. When he passed away, he reached the abode of God. His children could not get anything from him, but they earned in an unimaginable way here, by the grace of God. They too passed away like their father to reach God. Who is the best among these three? Certainly, the first-class student is the best.

Why are you facing tension? The reason is that you have fallen into the trap of illusion. Your name is Mohini, which means the one who creates an illusion and not the one who gets trapped in an illusion! The illusion you are trapped in makes you feel that the student who passed third class is the best. You think that he is the first-class student. This illusion is causing all this tension. If you are My real disciple, jump out of this illusion and live peacefully, without even a trace of tension. You can give all this tension caused by this illusion to the bad people in this world. Then, your name will become meaningful. God Viṣṇu became Mohini and created an illusion to mislead the demons, preventing them from getting the divine nectar (amṛtam). God knows what to do, when to do, how to do and where to do. Have full faith in God and He will never let His devotee down, either here or there (Na me bhaktaḥ praṇaśyati—Gītā).

Always follow justice. You should like justice because God loves justice. Do not have any personal love for justice. All your love for justice must be due to your total love concentrated towards God alone. The reason for your love for justice must only be your love for God. There should be no trace of love for justice separately. Always reject injustice because God hates injustice. You should not have any hatred for injustice separately. The only reason for your entire hatred for injustice should only be your love for God. You should like what He likes and hate what He hates.

A small sin done by a human being in a small matter confined to the small circle of its petty life is qualitatively and quantitatively equal to a big sin done by a demon in a big matter pertaining to this entire world. A small fire burning a small item is as good as a big fire burning a big item. Hence, one should not think that one is only committing a small sin and that it is not a big sin like the one done by the demon. As per the theory of relativity, such thinking is wrong. A small boy torturing a small ant is exactly as bad as the big demon torturing all the sages in the world. The sin of both is one and the same, from both a qualitative angle and a quantitative angle. The same punishment is given in hell to both the boy and the demon based on the theory of relativity. The magnitude or power of the sinner as well as the magnitude of the area impacted by the sinner are both taken into account. Hence, this point should be kept in mind by every soul. If every soul thinks that it is only doing a very small sin, all such souls in the entire world doing such small sins taken together become the biggest demon who harms the entire world greatly.

The king asked all the citizens of his kingdom to contribute a glass of milk in a big tank. Every citizen thought that he can pour a glass of water instead of milk since no one would be able to detect whether he contributed milk or water in the entire tank of milk. When the king came and checked the tank, the tank was full of water alone. All citizens thinking in the same way contributed only water and no one contributed milk. Sins disturb the peace of this world. God wants a smooth administration in this world created by Him. An industrialist established a factory and expects the employees to ensure the peaceful and smooth running of the factory. Any person who assists the peaceful and smooth administration of this world-factory will be greatly rewarded by the pleased industrialist-God.
