Swami Answers Devotees' Questions

[An online spiritual discussion was conducted on February 28, 2021, in which several devotees participated. Some of the questions of devotees answered by Swāmi are given below.]

1. Why is my daughter frequently seeing snakes in her dreams?

[Smt. Naga Mohini asked: Jai Guru Datta Swami! My daughter, Sreenidhi, is 14 years old. She sees snakes in her dreams, at least once in a week. She gets scared when she sees such dreams. I want to know the reason why she is having such dreams.]

Swāmi replied: In her previous birth, she had harmed snakes. Worship Lord Subrahmaṇya. She will get rid of this problem.

2. Why are human beings not changing despite learning the spiritual knowledge given by Swami?

[Śrī Rajashekar asked: Jai Guru Dev Datta! Swamiji, You have been telling all of us that harming or killing living beings is a great sin (mahā pāpam). Then why are human beings still unable to give up eating non-vegetarian food? You (Datta Swami) are known as Jñāna Mohinī, then why are human beings still struggling with ignorance and not changing? Why are so many animals still being killed in the name of sacrifice? What is the message You want to give me regarding this question of mine?]

Swāmi replied: Mohinī, the Incarnation of God, while distributing the divine nectar created an illusion only for demons and not for angels. Whatever knowledge is preached by this Jñāna Mohinī is always the truth and that truth is the power of attraction in this knowledge. Certainly, one day, it will yield its result. Though rain falls uniformly on the earth, seeds only sprout in fertile soil. In the course of time, even infertile soil can become fertile, due to the rain. But a rock will never become fertile and the seed fallen on it will not sprout. The rain can only benefit soil and not the rock.

3. Why do we not realize that God is the only trustworthy person?

[Śrī Rajashekar asked: We have so many family members who are blood relatives. We are supposed to trust them. But when we analyze their behaviour, we are sometimes unable to trust them. Instead, we develop more trust on some friends, who are very close to our hearts. We naturally choose whom we trust. Similarly, why do we not find God to be more trustworthy than anyone else? Why do we not realize that He is the most loving, true protector and the trustworthy person?

Swāmi replied: Several devotees trust in God and get wonderful benefits. Human intelligence is masked by the bias of blood relationships. The Kauravas were of the same blood as the Pāṇḍavas. Yet they harmed the Pāṇḍavas a lot. Kṛṣṇa was not a blood-related cousin like the Kauravas. But Kṛṣṇa helped the Pāṇḍavas to the climax. The character and good qualities of the Pāṇḍavas made Kṛṣṇa help them. Even within worldly relationships, this concept is so perfectly true. Then, what to speak of God, who is beyond this world?
