How Did God Dakshinamurthy Clear the Doubts of the Disciples Through Silence?

[Shri Abhiram asked (in the previous birth): Swami, in the Sri Dakshinamurthy Ashtakam, it is told that Sri Dakshinamurthy was silent when the disciples asked questions. Through the silence of the preacher, the doubts of all the disciples were cleared. How is this possible? Doubts are always cleared when the preacher speaks. Or, does it mean that God cleared their doubts through silence using His miraculous power?]

Swami replied:- Your question is a good question. God Dakshinamurthy was preaching this spiritual knowledge through His speech only. But, you may get a doubt that how it is told that the disciples are clearing their doubts through His silence (Gurostu maunaṃ vyākhyānam, śiṣyāstu cchinna saṃśayāḥ). The answer for your question is that in the case of a specific topic only this happens. The topic is about the knowledge of Parabrahman. In that topic, the preacher keeps silent, conveying the meaning that Parabrahman can be best explained only through silence because the words cannot touch Him. For this, the proof is the author of the prayer, Shri AdiShankara Himself. He says in one place of the prayer that the preacher is preaching about Parabrahman through silence only (Maunavyākhyā prakaṭita Parabrahmatattvam). This answer of silence is confined to that specific topic only and not every topic. By silence, the disciples understood that Parabrahman or unimaginable-unmediated God is beyond words and beyond imagination and hence, its nature can be explained only through silence.
