Debate between Kālabhairava and Swami
[02-10-2002] There has been no rain for two months in Vijayawada. A news was spread in Narasaraopet that "Since God is ignored, rains will not come; a bull died after speaking this in human language." Then Swami said, "That is the decree of Kālabhairava."
In this book, we have described earlier how Swami made us do bhajans for two consecutive years in Vijayawada to control the heat of summer and then caused rains to fall. At that time, Swami had already told His devotees, "I will no longer interfere in the cycles of time and deeds; it is not correct."
Now the devotees are craving rains. Swami will keep up His word that He will not interfere. Swami has thought of a solution to this problem. Swami seems to have come to a decision. Immediately, Swami made the devotees perform the abhishekam on the Shivalinga with the chanting of “Śrī Dattadevam…” and “Bhavāniśaṅkara…” list of names of God! Swami then gave the order. After the bhajan was over, Swami argued with Kālabhairava as follows. (We knew after Swami revealed it.)
Kālabhairava: Swami, You promised that You will not interfere in the deeds of time and deeds and now what are You doing again? I, in the form of that bull, declared that there would be no rain! But, now what did you do Swami?
Swami: The rains came earlier for the bhajans I did directly. But, I did not sing the bhajans now, rather it was the devotees who did it. Therefore, I did not break My word. However, the bhajan of My devotees should bear fruit now. Do you not know that I value My devotees more than Myself? I cannot tolerate the defeat of devotees. How is it that you, a devotee of Swami, have not thought about this matter at all?
Kālabhairava was very happy with this argument. Just then, lightning suddenly struck and it started raining! From then onwards, the rains began.
During the bhajan, it appeared to Smt. Seetamma that Swami was sitting on a throne as Lord Vishnu with Ganga flowing from His hand, doing abhisheka on the Shiva lingam and also appeared that Shankara was saying to Goddess Gauri and Subrahmanya, "Look how beautiful that bhajan is." When she shared with the rest of the devotees, they were delighted, bathed in the nectar rain and danced, singing the bhajan "Śrī Dattadevam..."!
