Can Anyone Do Spiritual Propagation or Will God Select Someone for It?

[Shri Kishore Ram asked:- Swami, You told that God will select a devotee to do the spiritual propagation. But, You also say that everyone must do spiritual propagation. How to correlate both?]

Swami replied:- One must not get confused about the two types of spiritual propagation. The first type is propagation of spiritual knowledge at the personal level. Every devotee, who learns the true concepts of spiritual knowledge, must propagate to others so that everyone is uplifted. If anyone doesn’t propagate the learnt spiritual knowledge to others, then he/she will become a ghost called ‘Brahma Raakshasa’ as punishment after death. A 10^th class student can teach alphabets to an LKG student. Similarly, a devotee can spread the basic spiritual concepts like miracles, justice, the existence of God, merits and heaven, sins and hell, etc. It is always best when devotees share the text or read out the spiritual discourses and replies given by the Sadguru as it is, so that errors do not occur in the propagation. Sharing the complete video clips of the Sadguru’s preachings is also an error-free method of this first type of propagation.

The second type is propagation of spiritual knowledge by creating spiritual concepts. This should not be done by anyone without permission from God. When Swami Dayananda goes to Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa to tell His new interpretations for the Vedas, Ramakrishna Paramahamsa asks Swami Dayananda whether Dayananda got permission from God to propagate this new interpretation of the Veda. Hearing that, Swami Dayananda leaves from there. Although both are incarnations of the same God, this drama of God through the two roles gives us the important concept that every Tom, Dick and Harry shall not become Sadguru and preach new concepts or interpretations because human beings always err. Only the contemporary human incarnation of God or Sadguru can give new concepts without any error. A Sadguru can deviate to any side like a bus on the road, but a human guru or any devotee of the Sadguru shall follow the railway track laid down by the Sadguru without any trace of deviation from the track. One must propagate the spiritual knowledge given by the Sadguru as it is without inserting one’s own understanding, which is often times wrong. When wrong interpretations of spiritual knowledge get propagated to the public and the followers end up in wrong practice, the devotee or Guru, who propagated those interpretations will be punished in hell until those wrong interpretations exist in the public.

Therefore, Paramahamsa wanted to stress this most important concept that nobody shall propagate one’s own interpretations without the direct permission from God. But, how to approach God and ask for permission? The straight answer is that there is no need for you to approach God. When there is such necessity, God Himself will appear before you asking you to propagate the new spiritual knowledge. In such context, you must not say that you preach the new advanced spiritual knowledge by yourself. You must beg Him that you are incapable of preaching such advanced spiritual knowledge. Then, God will enter you and will merge with you to propagate such new spiritual knowledge. You will become the human incarnation of God. The secret here is that since you expressed your inability by showing lack of even trace of ego, God enters you and does His work giving credit to you. He is not fond of credit like you because He is already bored with infinite credit in the upper worlds. A successor of a Sadguru is also selected in this way only. This is the inner meaning of the drama played by both Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa and Swami Dayananda. Both are human incarnations of God.
