Can anyone, without any kind of restriction, learn astrology?

[An online spiritual discussion was conducted on November 01, 2020, in which several devotees participated. Some of the questions of devotees answered by Swāmi are given below.]

[Śrī Yagnesh asked: What is Your suggestion for a person who wants to learn astrology? Should he show his horoscope to an astrologer, in order to see if he has the capability to learn astrology and only then learn it? Is it true that if an astrologer identifies the defects (doṣas) in the horoscopes of people, those defects will come upon the astrologer? Also, by helping someone to get rid of their problems through astrological remedies, are we obstructing God’s will?]

Swāmi replied: Astrology can be learnt by anybody if the person has an interest in the subject. There is no need of checking the horoscope of the person interested in learning astrology. No problem comes to the astrologer who sees the horoscopes of others. An astrologer must know that this subject is a part of spiritual knowledge itself. The deities of the nine planets are only the executive forces of God involved in running the administration by giving the fruits of the deeds of souls, as per the specified time. The astrologer should suggest remedies through which people become more devoted to God and develop more charity by distributing the specific foods related to the deities of the planets. The astrologer must aim at getting the grace of God by guiding people in the right direction towards God. If that is the astrologer’s ultimate aim, the astrologer will become a closer devotee of God and will attain His grace. The aim of the astrologer should not be to earn money. The aim should only be divine service. The astrologer travelling on this divine path need not worry about money because God will look after him in all aspects. He should remember that there are some aspects of life that are not governed by money.
