Can we reach heaven if we sacrifice our life to save another person?

[Śrī Anil asked: Can we still get into heaven if we give up our life to save others. For example: If we push someone to prevent him from getting hit by a truck, but in the process, the truck hits us.]

Swami replied: Suppose the person pushed aside and saved is a bad person and the person who gave up his life in order to save him was a good person. Then such sacrifice of one’s life is a sin because the good person could have helped the world in many ways if he had stayed alive. Instead, the bad person who was saved will now harm this world in several ways. One should also count oneself as one among all the souls in the world and only then decide what action is to be taken in the situation mentioned by you. Your own self should not be degraded with reference to other souls in the world.
