O Learned and Devoted Servants of God
[22 May 2025] In Hanumatsamhitaa, Hanuman told that if any devotee has any worldly problem, the devotee shall pray Him to get the solution. People mistakenly think that Hanuman works in the department of civil services so that Hanuman can attend to all worldly problems of the public! Hence, anybody, who has worldly problem, will start praying God Hanuman for the solution offering banana fruits as bribe, which is of course, an inevitable practice in the civil service department! People also think that Hanuman is not God since He is the servant of God Rama. People think that God appointed Him in the department of civil services with the main duty of serving the public in their worldly problems! All this is a wrong concept and complete misunderstanding about God Hanuman. The Vaishnavas, who are the fanatic devotees fascinated to only God Vishnu alone, have supported this wrong concept so that they are pleased to see God Rama as Master being the incarnation of God Vishnu. Hanuman is told as the incarnation of God Shiva. Since these fanatic devotees of God Vishnu do not like God Shiva, they say that at the maximum, God Shiva is the topmost devotee of God Vishnu (Parama Bhāgavatottama) and they are very much happy to see God Hanuman as the servant of God Rama.
I am analyzing the actual background here. God Hanuman is incarnation of God Shiva. The Veda says that God Shiva is God Vishnu (Śivaśca Nārāyaṇaḥ). Therefore, you need not understand the personality of God Shiva/God Hanuman with reference to God Vishnu/God Rama all the time. God Hanuman Himself is an individual God being the incarnation of the individual God Shiva. The meaning of the statement told by God Hanuman that He will help the devotee in their materialistic problems has a totally different background. The background is that if a devotee is in spiritual path trying to reach and unite with God, the devotee requires full peace of mind in his/her spiritual path. If worldly problems appear, the mental peace is disturbed so that the devotee cannot concentrate on the efforts in the spiritual path. In order to help the devotee in the spiritual path so that he/she can successfully reach and unite with God, God Himself came forward to solve those worldly hurdles to give mental peace to the devotee that helps the devotee in the spiritual path. People are thinking that God Hanuman will solve the worldly problems for any human being irrespective of his/her spiritual interest just like a worldly officer (Tahsildar, collector etc.) working in the department of civil services.
Today, the devotees shall understand the correct background of God Hanuman. God Shiva and God Vishnu took the roles of servant and master to enact a drama that preaches devotees about the service to God to be done by the devotee with utmost faith and sincerity. Hanuman exhibited several miracles and Rama did not exhibit any miracle. Hanuman helped Rama on several occasions, but always remained as the servant of Rama stating that Rama is source of all His miraculous powers thereby preaching the devotees not to be overwhelmed with ego after attaining miraculous powers. It is said that the spiritual knowledge must be attained from God Shiva (Jñānaṃ Maheśvarādicchet), who is God Hanuman. The same God Shiva became God Hanuman to show the practice of spiritual knowledge preached by Him as God Shiva.
