What is the significance of Shani Dev in Hindu Karma philosophy?

Swami replied:- Shani Deva is the presiding deity of the planet Saturn, who delivers the punishments of bad deeds to the souls and he gives the spiritual knowledge to the souls (Jnaana Kaaraka) while they are suffering the punishments of their own sins. He is the son of Surya Deva, who ignites the intelligence (Dhiyo yo naḥ pracodayāt - Veda) that is required for learning the spiritual knowledge. He is the brother of Yama Deva, who gives death (Mrutyu Deva) that destroys all the worldly bonds of the soul and this is essential for the stability and concentration on spiritual knowledge. Shani Deva is extracting positive wealth from the negative suffering of difficulties. This is greater than the extraction of positive wealth from zero wastage. We shall always be grateful and worship the father, Sun (Surya Deva), the first son of Sun (Shani Deva) and the second son of Sun (Yama Deva) and worship them as the three spiritual preachers.
