Which of the following stories from the Purana is correct?

[Smt. Padmaram asked:- Padanamaskaram Swami, I have a doubt in Shiva Puranam (Rudra Samhita), which says that Sage Narada cursed God Vishnu to be born as Rama and suffer in the separation of His wife and the attendants of God Shiva cursed by Sage Narada were born as demons. We have learnt from You that God Vishnu incarnated as God Rama on earth and due to the curse of Sage Sanaka, Sanandana etc., given to the devotees Jaya and Vijaya (gatekeepers in Vaikuntha), they were born as demons. Which is correct? Your feet dust, Padmaram.]

Swami replied:- There are several insertions in the Puranas written by Sage Vyasa. The Veda says (Śivaśca Nārāyaṇaḥ…) that Shiva and Vishnu are one and the same. Then, the attendants of Shiva and Vishnu are also one and the same. We should not get confused with the names of God. The lesson here we have to learn is that the devotees of God get ego and the result of such ego is that such devotees are born as demons. Hence, devotees must be very careful about ego. One can get the ego that he/she is a very great devotee of God and even that ego is dangerous for the soul.
