[A question by a devotee brought to Swami by Śrī Anil. Is it true that chanting the names of Viṣṇu and His Incarnations is dangerous because it takes away a person from the material world by the loss of wealth, separation from spouse, etc.?]
Swāmi replied: This idea is horrible in its straight sense. When one develops deep devotion to God, due to the extreme attraction towards God, all the worldly bonds drop off, in a spontaneous and natural manner. If one tastes the divine nectar (amṛtam), he will naturally not be interested in consuming any worldly drinks. Does this mean that the divine nectar throws away all worldly drinks since they are its enemies? If one wants to remain in the permanent state of attraction towards money and spouse, he or she should not approach spiritual knowledge. If one wants to be associated only with the worldly drinks, he or she should not aspire to drink the divine nectar.
