[Ms. Jahnavi Gouru asked: Paadanamaskaaram Swami, In the path of pravṛtti, when someone is going through difficult times and asks for our help, how far should we go to support them? Should we first consider our own comfort, or should we prioritize their needs above ours and maintain a niṣkāma attitude in our actions and thoughts? Please enlighten me, Swami.]
Swami replied:- If the requesting person is very much deserving based on justice as well as devotion to God, you can help him/her to your possible extent. But, the charity of one human being to another human being shall happen based on remembering about the needs of self also. When a soul does sacrifice of fruit of one’s own hard work to God, the self shall be totally forgotten because the omnipotent and omniscient God will take care of you whenever the context of need comes. God can give million times more if needed just like God Krishna gave uncountable saris to Draupadi when she was in need, based on her donation of a small piece of her sari to bandage the cut finger of God Krishna. Nivrutti is your behaviour towards God and Pravrutti is your behaviour towards your co-souls. Both are different from each other and opposite to each other like north and south poles (Dūramete… - Veda).
