Why should there be an initial effort of the devotee to get attracted to God?

[Ms. Thrylokya asked:- Paadanamaskaaram Swami. When God is magnet, as soon as the iron object comes to it, it will be spontaneously attracted. In such case, why should there be initial effort on the path of the devotee to get attracted to God?]

Swami replied:- The magnet is always a magnet and always attracts the magnetic materials like steel and the iron objects spontaneously. But, a magnet will not attract other non-magnetic materials. Similarly, a devotee is attracted by God spontaneously provided that devotee has true devotion to God. To get attracted, the material shall change its nature into the nature of magnetic material in order to get spontaneous attraction. Such nature of attraction to God can be obtained by the devotee if the devotee has real attraction towards the divine personality of God without aspiration for any fruit in return from God. To develop such nature that can be attracted by God, some effort and time is required by the devotee. God also puts tests in order to confirm the real devotion of the devotee. Hence, in the initial stage, some effort and time are required by the devotee to develop such nature of attraction to God.
