Part-1
[12-01-2003] When the Paramātman came to earth in human form, He would be extremely happy by seeing the sincere devotion of human beings. By drinking this devotional wine, He will grant whatever boons the devotees ask for in that intoxication. No matter however much Nishkama Bhakti a devotee may possess, at some point, human nature will not fail to express it. ‘That nature is called selfishness’. With that selfishness, the boons that are sought may sometimes harm not only God but also the human being who sought that boon. Bhasmasura asked for such a boon! That boon not only resulted in threatening Swami but ultimately destroyed the devotee. So, the penance to demand wrong boon destroyed the demon. You may say that Swami could have refused to bless the demon! But Swami became the innocent (Bhola Shankara) boon giver, intoxicated with the devotional wine the demon gave. Before taking any incarnation on earth, Swami strongly instructs Kālabhairava as follows:
"When I descend down to Bhūloka, I go in the middle of very dangerous human beings. They are over smart. Due to their extreme intelligence, self-destruction, destruction of others and the destruction of Guru occur. I am easily approachable by devotees. With their overintelligence, they make Me drink the wine like devotion and ask for boons that are destructive in the end. Some devotees make Me drink the most powerful wine like aspiration-free devotion mixed with service (Nishkama Karma Seva). Such devotees are mostly aspiration-free. But some time or the other, their natural selfishness will explode. During such times, make the boons useless that I have given to them in intoxication. Seeing that, I would get angry and scold You. Then, You make a terrible roaring sound and control Me. This is the meaning of the word ‘Kalabhairava’ (Kāla = at that time; Bhairava = making a terrible roar). So, Kālabhairava is not Your name, it is the title of Your responsibility. If You do not follow My instructions, I will have to remove You from this position when I come up later".
In this way, the whole program of the incarnation is carried out according to a certain plan written and given by Swami Himself. Kālabhairava’s duty is to implement that plan ruthlessly and if necessary, roar and control the incarnation according to Swami’s instructions. All this is as per Swami’s order only, hence, there is no violation of His independence and authority. This is the essence of the vision that we see, Swami drinking the wine.

You may doubt that, ‘if everything is happening according to the specific plan (or divine will), is it not futile to serve the God who comes as an incarnation? If we are supposed to be blessed as part of the plan, such a fruit will be achieved automatically. If getting the fruit is not written in the divine plan, the fruit will not be achieved by any amount of service. Therefore, service is not required!’ The answer to this doubt is that in the plan of Kalabhairava, what kind of fruit must be given, when and where it must be given as per the real necessities of the deseving devotees, is clearly mentioned. So, the fruit based on your service is part of the plan only and hence, your service to the incarnation is not a waste. As said, ‘what is the fruit of a particular type of service,’ ‘what is the value of that service,’ ‘how much is the fruit of that service,’ all these details have been decided by Swami and given in the plan. As per that specific divine plan, the power to make respective fruit reach the devotees impartially even by controlling Swami by a terrific threatening, has been already put in the hands of Lord Kalabhairava.
This is because, Swami is highly generous in giving boons due to the wine like devotion, exploiting this, devotees make Him drink it and ask the fruit equal to the size of a mountain for a nail sized service. Demon Bhasmāsura asked the fruit like that. The penance he did was like the size of a nail, but the boon he asked was equal to the size of a hill that could even reduce Swami to ash. But the most compassionate Swami bestowed the boon in the intoxication of devotional wine. Did Bhasmāsura gain anything from such a false boon? No, no, he was finally destroyed. Therefore, in such contexts, is not Kalabhairava's controlling power necessary for the welfare of that specific devotee? So, finally, it is becoming helpful to the soul only if you deeply anlyse.
Part-2
But is it possible to attain the fruit of the size of a hill for the service of the size of a nail while simultaneously becoming useful for us? This is also possible. You may do the service of the size of a nail and do not expect any fruit in return for that service. Consider that the service you have done is nothing but the fruit of your past meritorious deeds. Know that the obtained fruit cannot bestow you another fruit. If you do the service with this feeling and you do not expect any fruit in return, you will be blessed with the fruit equal to the size of a hill. Since you have no desire for the fruit, you do not know that the fruit of the size of a hill has already been deposited in your account. The reason is that you have donated your nail sized service of hundred rupees to Swami. You are not asking it back along with interest after donating it. Therefore, you do not even ask for the fruit of the size of a nail for your service of the size of a nail. Due to the above reason, now, your fruit of the size of a hill is under the control of Kālabhairava without your knowledge. Since you don't know this secret, there is no chance of you taking it and spending it, even when you don't need it. Know that such an exclusive fruit is not even under the control of Swami. This is because, even when you don’t need it, you may make Swami drink the wine of your devotion and compel Swami to give you that fruit. Swami, due to the intoxication, will take out that fruit and give it to you. Therefore, if you know about the secrecy of that fruit (to the size of a hill) or if it is in the possession of Swami, you will misuse it and waste it unnecessarily. But you cannot play the same trick on Kālabhairava to make Him drink your wine like devotion because Kālabhairava is very rock hearted. Your devotion-wine will be in your mind-vessel only. He will not touch it under any circumstances. Therefore, everything is under the control of Kālabhairava, as per the wish of Swami only. So, stop asking boons from Swami that are self-destructive. At that time, the boons look highly beneficial to you. But, like in the case of Bhasmāsura, they will destroy you for sure. Therefore, while thinking that the aspiractionless service done to Swami is your fruit of the merit and accordingly serving Swami as per your capacity (yathāśakti) is the best possible way.
There is a very good example of this. During the Rājasūya sacrifice, Swami's finger was cut and blood was oozing out. Draupadi, at the end of the sacrifice having completed the sacred bath (Avabhrutha snāna), tore off her pure silk saree and tied that piece of cloth as a bandage to Swami's finger. She very well knows that such an act of tearing off the saree is inauspicious and will bring all future problems. Though the eight wives are around Krishna, they did not get the thought to do such a service. Draupadi thought, "If it is occurred to me and I have done this service that is not done by anyone, means, it is the fruit of my previous penance." But, she did not think that in future, if my finger is ever cut, the Paramātman would inspire someone and arrange to tie a piece of cloth around my finger, reciprocally. Had she thought like that, she would have got back only one saree for that piece of cloth with compounded interest, when Dusshasana was removing her clothes. Had Dusshasana even pulled off the only second saree, she would have been in terrible grief. But she forgot her earlier service to Swami and thought that such a service was the fruit of her merit only and there would not be another fruit for a fruit already obtained.
That is why, during her disrobing episode, she did not pray to Swami, reminding Him of her service of tying a piece of cloth on His bleeding finger to get the same favour in return. She did not consider what she did on that day as a service. Even though it was life-threatening, she did not beg for the fruit of her previous service to Swami. Therefore, as a reward for her service, a hill of good fruit is deposited in her name. When she was in real need, that hill of fruit was given to her. That piece of cloth became infinite and turned into an infinite number of sarees to protect her. So, O Servants of Lord Datta! Join this scheme of “Do a little service, get an infinite fruit ” to swim off the worldly ocean.
