How do I get rid of fear and anxiety while reading spiritual knowledge?

Smt. Ramya asked: I get fear and anxiety while reading spiritual knowledge. How to overcome it?

Swami replied:- Elders say that one shall have either devotion to God or fear for the punishment of sin. Devotion is the best path but if devotion fails, at least fear will control sin. One need not fear about reaching the goal or God. The reason is that the tortoise walking slowly without any gap reached the goal whereas the egoistic rabbit failed since it slept. Hence, any soul putting constant effort will certainly reach the goal and one need not mind the time taken for the journey since reaching the goal is certain. If you divert your time, energy and money that is wasted in unnecessary enjoyments, which will spoil your health, to God, you will certainly get salvation. This is wealth from waste and the resulting wealth is also permanent spiritual wealth. Responsibilities to the family, called as basic duties, need not be considered as hurdles in spiritual journey (niyataṃ kuru…-Gita).
