QA:40-47

(Some of my friends, who are atheists, have asked these questions on sweet devotion and related topics. I have sent those questions to H.H. Shri Datta Swami, who has answered these questions. - Ms. Thrylokya)

40. Why doesn’t God come as female and become the wife/darling for a male devotee in the path of sweet devotion?

[Ms. Thrylokya asked]

Swami replied:- God is bearing all the creation as supporter and He is called as Bhartaa (Supporter) for the entire creation. Bhaaryaa means the maintained (supported item). On a table, there are several items. The table is not only supporter for all the items, but also is the supporter for each item. Hence, God is the supporter (Bhartā – Bibharti iti Bhartā) of the entire creation and also is the supporter for each individual soul. How can any item on the table become the supporter of the table? Hence, the Veda says that all souls irrespective of their gender are not only females, but also the wives (Bhaaryaa) of God. In Pravrutti, a female can maintain the entire family and can support all the souls of that family. But, in Nivrutti, all the souls and all the inert items of the creation cannot be supported even by a million souls! Hence, the omnipotent God alone can support all the souls and all the inert items of His creation. Here, Bhartaa means supporting and protecting item of all souls, which can be God alone. Bhaaryaa means any supported or protected item, which can be any soul. This basic point should be the basis to call somebody as husband (Bhartaa) and somebody as wife (Bhaaryaa).

Mere sexual affair cannot decide the meaning of these two words. Both Bhartaa (husband) and Bhaaryaa (wife) can be treated as one and the same with complete equality in the case of Rama (possessor of power) and Sita (His power personified). In this case, both are equal irrespective of gender. Sita is submissive to Rama or God Hanuman is submissive to Rama. Here, Rama is in the role of God and Sita or Hanuman is in the role of devotee. As actors, all these three are one and the same God. Nobody is even equal to God and you cannot expect anything or anybody greater than God (Na tat samaḥ… - Veda). If God comes in female form, He will be the wife of the same God in male human incarnation and such female God also will be in the role of a devotee in full ignorance. You should not mistake that God’s female form is always becoming devotee since Sita is a female. It is not so because God Hanuman is also a male, who is becoming the servant of the same God Rama. The natural observation in the creation is that wife always serves husband and not reverse. Based on this general tendency in the world, God always comes as male and the soul whether male or female comes as servant of God. The female incarnations of God also exist, which are Sita, Radha, Rukmini etc. If you take the female incarnation of God, the Mahaa Kaali, you can see some pictures in which Mahaa Kaali is dancing above God Shiva!

We cannot say that the female devotee is always covered with full ignorance for the sake of becoming an example for other devotees. Even God Rama was covered with full ignorance since the requirement of His role is to stand as an example for all the human beings, who are inherently covered with full ignorance. One part of the God has to take the role of devotee and another part of God has to take the role of God. Entire God is only one item and you cannot differentiate between one part and another part in God. From the river, one pot of water is taken to wash the floor of the temple and another pot of water is taken to bathe the statue of God situated in the temple. While taking these two pots of water from a river, can you distinguish between these two pots of water? Hence, the difference based on gender never exists in true spiritual knowledge.

41. Is it possible for a female devotee to attain salvation without having sweet devotion?

[If a female devotee wants to attain salvation without having sweet devotion, is it possible? Is sweet devotion necessary to pass the test of daareshanaa (spouse-bond)?]

Swami replied:- God knows everything about the devotee. If God feels that the devotee has strong spouse-bond, God will conduct such test. If God feels that the devotee will certainly pass the spouse-bond test also, God will not conduct such test. But, your question is like the question of Parikshit, who questioned sage Shuka about the easiest test only and not about the most difficult joint test of money and issues. I think, you are the sister of Parikshit because I am Sage Shuka! The only difference between you both is that Parikshit was satisfied with one answer of sage Shuka. You are beating around the bush again and again and as a result of this, I will also go into the forest shortly with madness for God! You both are crying for the easiest test in which there is 100% pass result. You are not talking anything about the most difficult test about which you can demand for re-examination. In fact, God Krishna conducted this difficult test of stealing wealth or butter (joint test for bond with wealth and children) again and again for ten years and almost all the candidates (Gopikas) failed again and again by complaining to the mother of God Krishna about His stealing of their butter preserved for their children. You both are moving earth and heaven for the test in which all Gopikas passed in the first attempt itself.

42. Can any true devotee come forward in sweet devotion after knowing that God undergoes the punishment in hell two times?

[Swami, whenever God tests a soul for Daareshana by doing romance with the soul through His illusory form, God undergoes the punishment in hell two times (once for His sake and another time on the behalf of the soul) so that ordinary souls don’t imitate Him. After knowing this truth, can any true devotee come forward in sweet devotion?]

Swami replied:- Here, the punishment is not for the sin in the spouse-bond test conducted by God. Even though there is no trace of sin in His action, the punishment is taken by God just to prevent the people from imitating Him for the sake of their illegal darling bond. By taking the punishment twice, God conveys the message that in illegal sexual relationship, both partners will be punished. The real devotees need not feel that there is sin in the sweet devotion with God. God is taking the punishment not for the sake of sin in the sweet devotion with God, but, He is taking the punishment to threaten the public for its mentality of exploitation.

43. Will God take the punishment for satisfying Gopikas in Goloka as well?

[In Goloka also, God Krishna created His illusory forms to satisfy the successful Gopikas permanently. Will God take the punishment for that as well?]

Swami replied:- God takes punishment for the sweet devotion in Goloka also. This will strictly avoid the exploitation of sinners. Since this punishment is taken by God through His full willingness only, no devotee shall be worried in this affair because the devotee is not at all involved in any sin in this devotion. Since the purpose of taking the punishment is totally based on different background, which is management of good worldly administration, no devotee having true spiritual knowledge in the brain feels bad for it.

44. Is it a sin when a Gopika is with an illusory Krishna, who is a climax devotee only?

[Swami, You said that God merges with both the body and soul of a deserving climax devotee to become a human incarnation on earth so that the individuality of the soul is maintained. You also told that every human incarnation contains both human being-component and God-component. This human being-component is the highest devotee, who attained Kaivalyam (monism) with God. Now, You said that God Krishna created His unreal forms without merging into them so that He can satisfy each Gopika based on devotional justice. It means that each Gopika is with that climax devotee only, who is different from the legally married husband, which causes sin according to justice. Isn’t it?]

Swami replied:- You are perfectly correct if the Gopika took illusory Krishna as illusory Krishna, who is just equal to a human being. In that case, the Gopika is doing sin because she left her husband and is meeting another human being (illusory Krishna). But, I have told 1000 times that Gopikas are taking illusory Krishnas as the real Krishna only. I also gave deep logic by saying that the form of both the real and unreal Krishnas is exactly one and the same and the medium in both cases contain exactly similar gross bodies, individual souls, four antahkaranams and similar hormonal activity. The illusory Krishna stands as the representative model of the real Krishna like a statue standing as a representative model for the unimaginable God. In both illusory Krishna and statue, God is not existing, but, they are worshipped as God by devotees. Sometimes, the statue also answers to the devotees through the unimaginable power of God. Shri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa told that the statue of Mahaa Kaali in His temple must be seen as alive mother and not as inert stone. Every Gopika knows that Krishna is God, but, does not know that the illusory Krishna is an illusory form of the real Krishna. The power of God is the highest and hence, higher than the power of sages.

45. Is it attractive to become an incarnation so as to romance with devoted female souls?

[Swami, You told that every human incarnation is a two-component system having both God-component and human being-component. When You said that the illusory form of God alone participates in romance with Gopikas, it is only the human being-component, who does romance with sweet devotees. Therefore, for spiritual aspirants, it might become another attractive point to become an incarnation so that they get the opportunity to romance with devoted female souls under the pretext of encouraging them in sweet devotion to reach God. Isn't it?]

Swami replied:- It is not correct because the human being-component of the incarnation of real Krishna is not participating in the romance with the Gopikas. The human beings created by the real Krishna having His own form are participating in the romance with the Gopikas. I am sorry that I have discouraged devotees from their dreaming aspiration in this angle! The created illusory Krishna has a different gross body having the same composition of five elements. The composition may be the same, but, the quantity of five elements is different. Suppose I say that a parrot made of sugar candy is weighing 5 grams of sugar and another parrot made of sugar candy is also weighing 5 grams of sugar. Though sugar is same and its weight is also same, a quantity of 5 grams of sugar is used in one item and a different quantity of 5 grams of sugar is used in another item. You cannot say that both parrots are made from the same 5 grams of sugar. Hence, an illusory Krishna is totally different from the real Krishna in the quantitative sense of the body. Therefore, such above aspiration is not fruitful. Moreover, any devotee having the aspiration to become an incarnation is permanently disqualified by God to become an incarnation.

46. Is sweet devotion the only option if God wants romance with love?

[Swami, You told that the most beautiful heavenly dancer, Uurvasii was created by God Narayana and if God wants romance, He could have done it with her and before her beauty, no human female can even stand. But, my point is that the real love is always natural and spontaneous, which cannot be induced even by God. In such case, if God wants romance with love, sweet devotion of souls becomes the only option. Isn’t it?]

Swami replied:- God Narayana is having unimaginable external beauty and she will fall in love with Him spontaneously by seeing His form. Even if she enquires about the qualities of God Narayana, the qualities (Kalyaana gunas) called internal personality is also beautiful beyond imagination. She will certainly surrender even to His internal personality. No soul in the entire creation has even a trace of such divine personality of God. In such case, does your question has any place to stand even on one leg?

47. Isn't it better to stick to 50:50 probability about the concept given by You i.e., real and illusory Krishnas?

[Out of 16,108 wives, Krishna is in real form with 2 wives only (Rukmini and Radha). Therefore, the probability of God being in real form in sweet devotion is 0.012% (2 ÷ 16,108 × 100), which is almost zero. Since nobody can practically prove the existence of unimaginable God in real Krishna and non-existence of unimaginable God in unreal Krishna, isn't it better for us to stick to 50:50 probability about this concept given by You and believe that Krishna will always be in His unreal form only while romancing with anyone including Radha and Rukmini?]

Swami replied:- The proof for the existence of the unimaginable God is the presence of the unimaginable events called miracles, which exists only in the real Krishna and not in illusory Krishnas. If necessary, even an illusory Krishna can do a miracle, which is the effect of the unimaginable power of the unimaginable God present in the real Krishna. I have given an example of a statue doing miracles due to the power of the unimaginable God even though God doesn’t exist in the statue. The real Krishna did several miracles from childhood. Even the knowledge preached by Krishna and the love of Krishna exhibited in the case of the Gopikas by creating Goloka above His abode are also unimaginable only. Through these three unimaginable characteristics (representing God Brahma for knowledge, God Vishnu for love and God Shiva for miracles), the real human incarnation shall be recognized.
