(Some of my friends, who are atheists, have asked these questions on sweet devotion and related topics. I have sent those questions to H.H. Shri Datta Swami, who has answered these questions. - Ms. Thrylokya)
100. Please enlighten me on the following argument.
[God Brahma played that negative role for one single time only, whereas Goddess Anaghā must play the role of a demo-piece in each and every incarnation from the beginning to the end of this creation. It is like she remains exploited forever whenever she comes in human form. Please enlighten me.]
Swami replied:- The role is always unreal whether it is God Brahma or Goddess Anaghā. Whether you drink one cup of coffee or hundred cups of coffee or even infinite cups of coffee in dream, it does not matter at all. The basic point of this concept is that the role is unreal and the actor/actress is real. Moreover, the timescale of Brahmaloka or Dattaloka is quite different from the time scale of the earth. The time taken by one full life of a human being on the earth is equal to a fraction of a second in the scale of God (Brahma kālamāna). After staying very long time in Brahmaloka or Dattaloka, Anaghā is simply bored to lead the life of the actress. She is very much anxious about this play of role on the earth, which is just for a fraction of a second according to the different time scales. Moreover, even if Anaghā comes down to earth in a role, Goddess Anaghā will simultaneously exist in the Dattaloka also without any reduction in her as per the statement of the Veda (Pūrṇasya pūrṇa mādāya pūrṇa mevā vaśiṣyate...). When a soul does penance for a specific form of God, it is the devotional duty of that form of God to grant the boon asked by that soul, be it an angel or demon. When it comes to souls penancing for romance with God, it is the plan of Anaghā (in the form of Sarasvati, the knowledge power or intelligence of God) only to create human beings having the form of the desired God to fulfill the desire of that devoted soul so that the real form of God maintains His celibacy and at the same time, it creates satisfaction to the devotee. This plan is strengthened by Anaghā only in the form of Lakshmi, the materialisation power or potential energy of God and this plan is implemented into action by Anaghā only in the form of Parvatii, the dynamic power or kinetic energy of God (Svābhāvikī jñāna bala kriyā ca…- Veda).
101. Is my following argument correct?
[Swami, You only told that when man proposes, God disposes it because when a desire is satisfied, the desire only grows and not reduces. When God satisfies the lustful desires of sweet devotees in Dushpravrutti, it only increases their lust on God but not lead to their reformation. Isn't it?]
Swami replied:- Since the object of their desire is God, the principle that the satisfaction of a desire will increase other desires will not be applicable. By studying the personality of God, the bad qualities disappear and the soul becomes a perfect soul of Pravrutti shortly (Kṣipraṃ bhavati dharmātmā…- Gita).
102. Please explain how is the following justified?
[Swami, let us take two souls, who are in Pravrutti and progressing towards Nivrutti. The first soul was previously in Dushpravrutti and has entered into Pravrutti by practically diverting her illegal lust towards God through sweet devotion. The second soul is in Pravrutti without any sweet devotion towards God. The first soul has the advantage over the second soul in the path of Nivrutti because the first soul already has excellent fascination for God since God helped her in sweet devotion, but, the second soul is at loss since it has to develop that fascination through lot of genuine justified efforts. Devotees, who are inherently following justice are losing this advantage of attaining union with created form of God, which will help them in Nivrutti to increase their fascination towards God, whereas the devotees following injustice are getting that advantage in Nivrutti. Please explain how this is justified.]
Swami replied:- It is justified because one fundamental point is misunderstood. Romance is not the only single field through which fascination to God can be improved. There are so many criminal cases taking place in the world among the spouse-bonds in which romantic relationship is the basis. Even a soul in Pravrutti can develop fascination, which is more than the fascination developed in the field of romance. Take the example of the hunter Kannappa, who developed lot of fascination for God even without the field of romance. Practical examples are seen that a Pravrutti-soul can develop lot of fascination for God. Even Draupadi as a sister of Krishna defeated all the romantic bonds of Krishna.
103. Are the following contradicting each other?
[Swami, You told that every soul has to take final female birth to take the test of spouse-bond in which the devoted female soul has to romance with God voting for God against her legally married husband just like the Gopikas romanced with God in Brundāvanam. You also told that God is pleased by this since God is greater than justice (Sarva dharmaan parityajya...). You also told that there is no sin in this action since it is Nivrutti and not Pravrutti. This is very logical. Now, You are telling that the spouse-bond test in Nivrutti is the same for both males and females in which they have to leave their spouse-bond for the sake of God's work. This is also logical since God incarnates to uplift justice but not destroy the existing justice (Dharma Samsthaaparthaaya...). Although both are logical, they are contradicting each other. Please clarify.]
Swami replied:- Here, the missing fundamental point is that you are mixing the transformation from Dushpravrutti to Pravrutti with the transformation from Pravrutti to Nivrutti. I told about romance in the first transformation. In the second transformation, God tests whether all worldly bonds including the spouse-bond are broken or not. The breakage means detachment from all the worldly bonds due to the attachment with God. When the justified spouse-bond is also broken for the sake of God, there is no question of romance, which means justified romantic attachment of spouse-bond even with God. In the first transformation, there is no breakage of worldly bonds because in that, only breakage of unjust worldly bond and formation of justified worldly bond are existing. In this process, since fascination to God also increases very much, there is every chance for the fascination to God to lead the soul from Pravrutti to Nivrutti also.
104. Does the threatening type of devotion come under surrender to God or greater than surrender to God?
[Swami, You told that Gopikas have threatened God to romance with them and also, the daughters of the Kings have threatened God to marry them by saying that they will commit suicide if they are not accepted by Krishna. Does this type of devotion come under surrender to God (following the will of God as their will) or greater than surrender to God (unable to follow the will of God due to mad devotion)?]
Swami replied:- Whatever may be the case, the merit lies in such case provided this prayer for the romantic bond with God takes place after the breakage of all 100 worldly bonds including the spouse-bond. Total surrender to the will of God is also a very important point apart from devotion to God. If both these points reach the climax level, then only the devotee is said to be the climax devotee. In case all the worldly bonds are broken for the sake of God, God may arrange their prayer of romantic bond with Him through His own technology of Māyā power in which souls are created having His own form. However, such devotion lacks the total surrender to God in which there shall be no proposal from the side of the devotee to God. This does not mean that God will exploit such a totally surrendered devotee with His illogical and illegal desires since God will never have such desires. Arthavādas may be told by God that romance will continue in Goloka also in order to encourage the followers of Dushpravrutti by hiding the fact that in the energetic body, there is no possibility of feeling romance due to the absence of matter-Tamas in the energetic body.
105. What is the stage of 16,108 wives of God Krishna?
[Swami, these are the questions regarding the 16,108 wives of God Krishna. These souls did not leave the bond with romance (justified spouse-bond). But, they desired to marry God, which does not come under Dushpravrutti.
i) Are they in Pravrutti or Nivrutti?
ii) Will they become the wives of God in every future births also?
iii) Did they attain Goloka or Brahmaloka after death?]
Swami replied:- i) They are in the joint phase of Pravrutti and Nivrutti since they are not married girls doing illegal sex with anybody including God. They have legal right to choose anybody including God for the sake of marriage. Hence, they are perfect devotees of God since their devotion is in climax in selecting only God for marriage. All these are excellent positive points in the field of devotion. But, they lacked total surrender to God, in which there should be no proposal from the side of the devotee about any desire to God. Hence, God fulfilled their desire through His technology of Māyā power by creating 16,107 human beings having exactly His form. Due to the lack of total surrender, these 16,107 princesses are not fully liberated and did not merge with God after death. They had fascination for justified sexual life and they have diverted it to God rather than towards any worldly human being. These daughters of kings were not the sages, who did penance for God for millions of births and burnt their lust in the penance-fire. Although they forcibly married God by threatening Him through their suicide, they were not liberated from all the worldly bonds. The strongest worldly bond to be broken is the joint-bond with child and wealth. Hence, they had rebirths as human beings and continued their spiritual efforts in order to attain the quality of total surrender to God in which there is no trace of desire from the side of the devotee for anything from God. Hence, I am very much stressing in My entire spiritual knowledge that the development of devotion to God must always be accompanied with lack of desire for any fruit from God.
ii) By the grace of God, they were born as spiritual aspirants concentrating to develop the total surrender to God. Hence, their becoming wives of God does not arise at all. Even in that birth, they were married by the human beings created by God Krishna having His own form.
iii) They attained Brahmaloka after death and are reborn again as human beings to develop total surrender to God. After developing the total surrender to God, they are eligible to go to Goloka and merge with God like the twelve successful Gopikas (sages).
106. What is the fact if the equalisation of Radha with Gopikas is not factual?
[Swami, You have told that “This equalisation of Radhaa with Gopikas was also not a factual situation”. What is the factual situation? Please explain.]
Swami replied:- The factual situation is that all the 1000 Gopikas including the twelve successful Gopikas were already very much dedicated souls to God as sages. God asked them to play the roles of Gopikas to demonstrate the concept of sweet devotion so that the devoted sinful souls in Kali age can at least be saved from going to hell. As actors, all the 1000 sages are excellent devoteed souls, who were also personally tested simultaneously and twelve passed Gopikas merged with the energetic form of God in the upper world. As roles, the sages acted as Gopikas representing the future sinful Dushpravrutti souls of Kali age. Even in the roles as Gopikas, they were not placed in the roles of Dushpravrutti because it is below their spiritual dignity. They enacted as if they were in Dushpravrutti, but, they were in perfect Pravrutti. As actors, the sages have burnt even the fascination for justified spouse-bond in their penance-fire because they like what God likes. Since God always likes to be a celibate, the sages have also burnt their lust due to their mad fascination for God. They very well know that God will not involve in romance with any created soul. Therefore, they only danced with the created forms of Krishna, but, never did sex even with the created forms. Being sages in all their previous births, all the Gopikas know about the Maayaa power of God due to their supernatural power.
Although external romance like kissing and hugging existed between the created Krishnas and Gopikas in the rāsa-dance, both the Gopikas and created Krishnas performed those external actions without any sexual intentions. In fact, actions like hugging and kissing can be done by brothers and sisters also without any sexual intentions. Therefore, neither the created human beings having the form of Krishna nor the Gopikas being sages have involved in the sin of illegal romance. The oral expression of Gopikas calling Krishna as ‘Master of Sex’ (Suratanātha) and their external actions like kissing and hugging with created forms of Krishna will make it appear as if Gopikas were involved in illegal sex with the created forms of God. This entire divine play was meant for attracting the sinful souls with irreparable bad qualities and diverting them towards God so that they will slowly transform into righteous souls with good qualities (Kṣipraṃ bhavati dharmātmā…- Gita). Gopikas were used to play a divine drama for the sake of bad people in future Kali age to advise them to divert their bad qualities towards God instead of diverting them to the society and spoil the peace and balance of the divine creation. Apart from this role of playing in the divine drama, they were also simultaneously tested in the three strongest worldly bonds. The sages learned that the strongest among the strongest worldly bonds is the joint-bond of wealth and child. However, twelve Gopikas could defeat this joint bond also apart from the bond with spouse by dancing in Brundāvanam. In this way, both angles are covered by God through one action.
107. Why does honour the sweet devotion and want to be celibate simultaneously?
[Swami, on one side, God is allowing and honouring the sweet devotion of devotees and on the other side, God is wanting to be a celibate. Why such discrepancy in this topic of sweet devotion?]
Swami replied:- Gopikas praised God Krishna as father, mother, preacher, friend, husband and the ultimate goal. In this way, from the side of devotee, there is nothing wrong in the romantic love of the devotee towards God. This does not mean that God shall also allow or honour that as a right thing that can be applied to co-human beings also treating them as God, which is exploitation by imitation. When all the worldly fascinations of a devotee are combined as one heap and diverted towards God, even the worldly fascination for spouse-bond/justified romance may exist in that one single fascination towards God. In such case, we should not say that ‘God allowed sweet devotion’ or ‘God honoured sweet devotion’. Allowing or honouring indicates the mutual interest of God and the devotee. From the side of God, such interest does not exist because He is the infinite ocean of bliss and simultaneously, He does not want to spoil His perfect celibacy. Since it is right from the side of the devotees, if the devotees crave for the sexual union with God by defeating all their worldly bonds and finally the bond with spouse also, God manages the situation without a trace of any defect by creating the human beings having His own form in which the unimaginable God-component is absent so that such human forms also have interest in the trace of the illusory happiness. (In fact, this is only analysis of assumed union of Gopikas with illusory Krishnas since actually the union of illusory Krishnas and Gopikas did not take place except the dance. This is the case with Gopikas, who were sages doing penance for God in the several past births.
The case of 16,107 married wives of Krishna, who were satisfied by illusory Krishnas through justified sex throughout their lives was totally different because they were not the sages and were only ordinary devotees interested in God). If the desire of the devotee was wrong even from the side of the devotee, God would have simply condemned and rejected their proposal (In fact, God rejected the proposal of these Gopikas in the first meeting itself stating that the proposal was wrong from their side. This is a test for them about the intensity of their concentration on God and about their strength of identification of Krishna as God. Apart from this, this was also to give a warning to the other human beings to advise them not to follow imitation-based exploitation that leads to hell.). God does not enjoy this trace of illusory happiness since He is enjoying His own self, which is infinite bliss. Such self-enjoyment is possible when God enjoys the embodiment of His own power, which is essentially not dualistic and is only monistic. In the case of Gopikas, the threat for suicide is also a part of the divine play and hence, sages (Gopikas) were not affected by this defect of giving threat of suicide to God. Hence, they got their test for ultimate salvation. But, in the case of 16,107 daughters of kings, their threat is not a part of the divine play, which is true only. Hence, they did not get the ultimate salvation and were managed by the omnipotent power of God (illusory Krishnas) like Gopikas. Both marriage and subsequent sexual life are managed by God with the help of His created forms only. It is justified from the side of devotees to form a romantic bond with God, but, forcing God to fulfill their sexual desire shows the lack of total surrender of the devotees towards God.
108. Swami, can You please give the total comparision between 1000 Gopikas and 16,107 wives of God Krishna?
Swami replied:- The comparision between 1000 Gopikas and 16,107 wives (Radha and Rukmini are not included) of Krishna is given below:-
i) Gopikas were sages, who did severe burning penance for millions of births for the sake of God and are completely in Nivrutti. These Gopikas know that God will be born as Krishna. The wives of Krishna before their marriages, were ordinary devotees of Pravrutti without complete Nivrutti. These wives of Krishna know God Krishna only on the earth and were very much attracted by the entire divine personality of God Krishna.
ii) Gopikas wanted God only and broke all their worldly bonds for the sake of God Krishna. The wives of Krishna did not break all their worldly bonds for the sake of God.
iii) Gopikas treated Krishna as their husband with pure love and without a trace of lust. Hence, they forced God Krishna only for a dance to become close to Him and never asked Him for a sexual union. The wives of Krishna were having both love and lust towards Krishna and forced Krishna to marry them so that they can satisfy their lust with Krishna throughout their lives.
iv) Both Gopikas and wives of Krishna threatened Krishna that they would commit suicide if their request is not accepted by Krishna. But, the difference is that Gopikas wanted only for a close association through the dance, whereas the wives of Krishna desired for pacification of their love and lust with Krishna throughout their lives. In the case of Gopikas, their force was only for the love of Krishna without any aspiration for selfish pleasure and in the case of wives, their force was for their love and lust that gives pleasure to them.
v) The sages know due to their spiritual power that Krishna is the only perfect celibate in the entire creation and the same fact was declared later on by God Brahma. Therefore, sages as Gopikas did not force Krishna for sexual union and forced only for a dance that brings them close to God. Moreover, the dance is going to be a divine play for the sake of bad souls in the coming Kali age. Hence, Krishna is also internally willing for the dance. In the case of the 16,107 wives of Krishna, they do not have the spiritual power to know that Krishna is the real celibate. Hence, they forced Krishna for the sexual life through marriage. Hence, these wives could not go to Goloka like Gopikas and were born on the earth again and again to continue their spiritual efforts.
To be continued...
