ŚRĪ HANUMADAṢṬAKAM
श्रीहनुमदष्टकम्‌
[Eight verses on God Hanuman]

श्री आञ्जनेयाय नमः ।

Śrī Āñjaneyāya namaḥ ।

[Salutations to God Hanuman, who is the son of Goddess Anjani]

अधः पर्वतन्यस्त पादाग्रधीरं, ज्वलद्भूरिपिङ्गाक्ष सन्ध्यारुणाभ्रम्‌ ।
महासागरोल्लङ्घनार्थं समर्थं, हनूमन्तमाकाशविक्रान्त मीडे ॥1॥

Adhaḥ parvatanyasta pādāgradhīraṃ,
Jvaladbhūripiṅgākṣa sandhyāruṇābhram ।
Mahāsāgarollaṅghanārthaṃ samartham,
Hanūmantamākāśavikrānta mīḍe ॥1॥

[When You placed the front part of Your foot, the mountain sinked down into the earth. Due to the radiating red light from Your big eyes, You were shining like the red-cloud in the twilight. You were capable of jumping over the mighty ocean, for which purpose, You grew up to the sky. I praise such God Hanuman, who occupied the space up to sky.]

कपिस्तोत्रघोषै र्मुहुर्वर्धमानं, बृहद्दक्षिणांसोद्गदादण्डभाण्डम्‌ ।
महाधैर्यगाम्भीर्यपाधोधिमूर्तिं, हनूमन्तमाकाशविक्रान्त मीडे ॥2॥

Kapistotraghoṣai rmuhurvardhamānaṃ,
Bṛhaddakṣiṇāṃsodgadādaṇḍabhāṇḍam ।
Mahādhairyagāmbhīryapādhodhimūrtiṃ,
Hanūmantamākāśavikrānta mīḍe ॥2॥

[You were growing again and again due to the praising prayers of the monkey warriors. You have placed Your mace on Your right shoulder so that the stick of the mace is on Your shoulder and its tip part like pot was behind Your mighty shoulder. You were like the embodiment of the mighty ocean representing courage and dignity. I praise such God Hanuman, who occupied the space up to sky.]

समुत्क्षिप्तवामाङ्घ्रि माकुञ्चितांसं, समुत्पातलक्ष्यैक केन्द्रीकृताक्षम्‌ ।
स्थिरब्रह्मचर्यज्वलद्योगशक्तिं, हनूमन्तमाकाशविक्रान्त मीडे ॥3॥

Samutkṣiptavāmāṅghri mākuñcitāṃsaṃ,
Samutpātalakṣyaika kendrīkṛtākṣam ।
Sthirabrahmacaryajvaladyogaśaktiṃ,
Hanūmantamākāśavikrānta mīḍe ॥3॥

[You were placing the right foot in the position ready to jump, lowering the two shoulders, concentrating both eyes on the process of jumping and possessing the burning divine energetic fire due to unshaken celibacy. I praise such God Hanuman, who occupied the space up to sky.]

महादेवमेवावतीर्णं हिमाद्रे, र्महाब्रह्मतेजोमहाविष्णुरूपम्‌ ।
सहायाय रामस्य साक्षात्त्रिमूर्तिं, हनूमन्तमाकाशविक्रान्त मीडे ॥4॥

Mahādevamevāvatīrṇaṃ himādre,
Rmahābrahmatejomahāviṣṇurūpam ।
Sahāyāya rāmasya sākṣāttrimūrtiṃ,
Hanūmantamākāśavikrānta mīḍe ॥4॥

[You were looking like God Shiva, who came down the Himalaya mountain. You were like the energetic radiation of God Brahma that took the shape of God Mahaa Vishnu. This looks as if God Brahma, God Vishnu and God Shiva came down to help God Rama. I praise such God Hanuman, who occupied the space up to sky.]

दशास्या स्सहस्रं तृणायेति भीमं, बृहद्गर्जनं बिभ्रतं भीमपूर्वम्‌ ।
अहो! दैत्यनाशोत्थितं धूमकेतुं, हनूमन्तमाकाशविक्रान्त मीडे ॥5॥

Daśāsyā ssahasraṃ tṛṇāyeti bhīmaṃ,
Bṛhadgarjanaṃ bibhrataṃ bhīmapūrvam ।
Aho! Daityanāśotthitaṃ dhūmaketuṃ,
Hanūmantamākāśavikrānta mīḍe ॥5॥

[You were violently roaring saying that even thousand Raavanas are just like a single grass leaflet before God Rama. You are the elder brother of Bhiimasena. You were like comet, which is a bad omen indicating the destruction of demons. I praise such God Hanuman, who occupied the space up to sky.]

मुखोर्ध्वत्रिपुण्ड्र त्रिशूलस्थमध्य- स्फुरद्वह्निनेत्रच्छटाकुङ्कुमाङ्कम्‌ ।
सुरैः पुष्पवर्षै र्नतैर्दुर्निरीक्ष्यं, हनूमन्तमाकाशविक्रान्त मीडे ॥6॥

Mukhordhvatripuṇḍra triśūlasthamadhya-
Sphuradvahninetracchaṭākuṅkumāṅkam ।
Suraiḥ puṣpavarṣai rnatairdurnirīkṣyaṃ,
Hanūmantamākāśavikrānta mīḍe ॥6॥

[You are wearing the three vertical lines on Your forehead as Your mark, which looks like the trident at the centre of which the upward flashing red fire of the third eye looks as the central red kumkum powder line. Angels were raining flowers on You while bending their heads since they were unable to see Your radiation. I praise such God Hanuman, who occupied the space up to sky.]

महावाललोलोर्मि निर्धूतवार्धि-भ्रमद्वीचिहेलाविभीताभ्रदेवम्‌ ।
विदर्भेशपुत्रीपदान्वेषणाय, हनूमन्तमाकाशविक्रान्त मीडे ॥7॥

Mahāvālalolormi nirdhūtavārdhi-
Bhramadvīcihelāvibhītābhradevam ।
Vidarbheśaputrīpadānveṣaṇāya,
Hanūmantamākāśavikrānta mīḍe ॥7॥

[While searching for Goddess Sita on the earth, You were violently shaking Your huge tail on the ocean due to which the water was jumping up with roaring and rotating huge waves, which were frightening the angels in the sky. I praise such God Hanuman, who occupied the space up to sky.]

पदाम्भोजमात्मीयमेव श्रितानां, विपत्सङ्कटानां प्रहर्तारमेकम्‌ ।
यशोवाग्बलायुर्जयश्रीकरं तं, हनूमन्तमाकाशविक्रान्त मीडे ॥8॥

Padāmbhojamātmīyameva śritānāṃ,
Vipatsaṅkaṭānāṃ prahartāramekam ।
Yaśovāgbalāyurjayaśrīkaraṃ taṃ,
Hanūmantamākāśavikrānta mīḍe ॥8॥

[You are the only God to smash the difficulties that face the devotees catching Your feet-lotus flowers. You give fame. You give strong speech. You give immense strength. You give long longevity. You give victory. You give wealth. I praise such God Hanuman, who occupied the space up to sky.]

काश्यपेन कृतं दिव्य, मिदं हनुमदष्टकम्‌ ।
सङ्कटेषु पठन्मुक्तो, नरो नन्दति नन्दति ॥

[This eight-verse prayer on God Hanuman is written by Shri Datta Swami, who is born in Kashyapa gotra. The devotee, who recites this prayer in difficulties, will be liberated from all problems and will certainly be happy.]
