1. How can God take the full responsibility of a soul pursuing the spiritual path, while discouraging its efforts?

[Smt. Anita Renkuntla asked: Padanamaskaram Swamiji! You said that God does not encourage the souls on the spiritual path of devotion and sacrifice (nivṛtti). Further, You have also said that God takes up the total responsibility of a soul on the spiritual path. Both statements seem contradictory. Kindly clear this confusion of mine.]

Swāmi replied: Nivṛtti means the soul’s highest love for God...

Is reality a property of God, the cause, which enters creation, the effect, to make it real?

For Scholars Posted on: 16/03/2021

Śrī Bharath Krishna asked: Padanamaskaram Swamiji! You said that creation is real for all the souls as well as for God. Creation appears to be real because it has borrowed its real nature from its creator, the unimaginable God, who is absolutely real and who is the only truth. After learning this from You, I remembered sūtras 92-94 from the Parabrahma Sūtras composed by You. There You have explained the relationship between mud and the pot made out of it. In that example, the properties of the mud enter the pot. Likewise, can I say that the reality of this creation is a property obtained...

Should I throw away non-vegetarian food served on my plate by mistake?

Posted on: 15/03/2021

Kum. Bhanu Samykhya asked: Padanamaskaram Swamiji! I recently faced a bad situation, wherein I was in a hurry and due to confusion, I accidentally served some non-vegetarian food on my plate. When I realized what I had done, I got scared and tense because that very morning, I had read Your answer to Kum. Amudha’s question. In it You had explained that killing animals for food is a sin and that one should not repeat eating non-vegetarian food after knowing this. So, out of fear of committing a sin, I could not think clearly and threw both the non-vegetarian curry and the rice from my plate...

Posted on: 15/03/2021

Swāmi replied: Actually, the Viśvarūpam (Cosmic Form) showed by Kṛṣṇa to Arjuna was indeed the form of God Datta. The central three faces of the Cosmic Form were Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Śiva, respectively, as seen in the form of God...

Posted on: 12/03/2021

[An online spiritual discussion was conducted on February 20, 2021, in which several devotees participated. Some of the questions of devotees answered by Swāmi are given below.]

[Kum. Thrylokya asked: Padanamaskaram Swami! In worldly life (pravṛtti), it is our duty (dharma) to not hurt our parents and make them happy. But I realised that their expectations never end and some ignorant parents try to achieve their goals through their children. Their kids also undergo a lot of stress to fulfil their dreams, because they think that parents alone have true love for them. Is it our dharma to fulfil our parents’ expectations? Or is it enough to take care of their worldly needs and spiritual needs?]

[Śrī Veerabhadra Sastry asked: In one context, Śaṅkarācārya said “Ahaṃ Brahmāsmi” and His disciples repeated the same. So, Śaṅkarācārya drank some molten metal, which His disciples could not. So, He proved that He was God and was different from all souls. In the Bhagavad Gītā, it is said as follows:

Anekabāhūdara vaktra netraṃ paśyāmi tvāṃ sarvato’nantarūpam|

Nāntaṃ na madhyaṃ na punastavādiṃ paśyāmi viśveśvara viśvarūpa||

Why do Human Incarnations of God sometimes break God's own rules?

Posted on: 10/03/2021

[An online spiritual discussion was conducted on February 13, 2021, in which several devotees participated. Some of the questions of devotees answered by Swāmi are given below.]

[Śrī Durgaprasad asked: You have said that God never breaks His own rules. But when God came in the form of Śrī Rama, He broke the rule of justice in battle. He killed Vāli by shooting an arrow from the back. However, to compensate for that violation, He also took a similar arrow shot from a hunter when He reincarnated as Śrī Kṛṣṇa. How can we correlate the concept that God never breaks His own rules with the few occasions, when He actually breaks some rules?]

How is the soul's reformation possible when souls and their qualities persist across cycles of creation and destruction of the world?

Posted on: 10/03/2021

[An online spiritual discussion was conducted on February 13, 2021, in which several devotees participated. Some of the questions of devotees answered by Swāmi are given below.]

[Smt. Anita Renkuntla asked: In the Kali Yuga, people have no time to read or hear the knowledge given by the Human Incarnation. They have no interest in spiritual knowledge. How can the inherent qualities of the soul be changed? I read in one of Your discourses that even after the destruction of creation, souls continue to exist in a hidden state. They are born again with the same inherent qualities in the new creation of God. Then how is the reformation of the soul possible? Do forgive me if I have misunderstood the concept. At Your Divine feet.]

Why did Shri Krishna seek a Guru, even though He Himself was Sadguru?

Posted on: 10/03/2021

[An online spiritual discussion was conducted on February 13, 2021, in which several devotees participated. Some of the questions of devotees answered by Swāmi are given below.]

[Smt. Suganya Raman asked: Recently, I heard the bhajan composed by You “Kiṅkaro’smi tava Śaṅkara” and came across the line about Upamanyu. I read the story of Upamanyu Maharṣi, who, as a child, was fed milk by Lord Śiva and was blessed and lived long. Later, Lord Kṛṣṇa learnt how to do penance for pleasing God from Upamanyu Maharṣi. I read that Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa wanted to do penance for pleasing Lord Śiva in order to have children. So, He was searching for a Guru. Upamanyu became Śrī Krishna’s Guru. My question is, why would Śrī Kṛṣṇa, a Sadguru Himself, need a Guru?

How can one achieve the state of aspiration-free sacrifice to God?

Posted on: 05/03/2021

Śrī Phani asked: A devotee asked me about the first step to achieving niśkāma karma yoga, which is the state of practical sacrifice, without aspiring for any fruit in return. I told him that first step is to pray to God without aspiring for any fruit in return from Him. I also told him that I will ask You about this and convey Your reply to him.

Swami replied: O Learned and Devoted Servants of God! What you told is not the first step because it is both the first and the last step. There is no other step than that step. This concept of niśkāma karma yoga...
