ŚRĪ PARAŚURĀMĀVATĀRĀṢṬAKAM
श्री परशुरामावताराष्टकम्‌
[Eight Verses on the Warrior-Brāhmaṇa Incarnation of God Vishnu]

ॐ नमो नारायणाय । ॐ नमो विष्णवे ।
Oṃ Namo Nārāyaṇāya । Oṃ Namo Vishnave ।

[Salutations to God Narayana, Who is God Vishnu]

मदोन्मत्त राजन्य वक्त्राम्बुजानि, विनालानि कृत्वा कुठारेण भान्तम्‌ ।
महाविक्रमाग्निं परश्वग्ररामं, भजे नाथ नारायणं जामदग्न्यम्‌ ॥1॥

Madonmatta rājanya vaktrāmbujāni,
Vinālāni kṛtvā kuṭhāreṇa bhāntam ।
Mahāvikramāgniṃ paraśvagrarāmaṃ,
Bhaje Nātha Nārāyaṇaṃ Jāmadagnyam ॥1॥

[You removed the stems (Necks) of the face-lotus flowers of proud kings with battle-axe (Parashu) and You were shining with victory. You were like burning fire by Your very powerful talent in warfare. You were wearing the battle-axe with its edge towards the front side. I worship such Lord Narayana, who is in the form of Warrior-Brāhmaṇa called Shri Parashuraama, the son of Sage Jamadagni.]

उरो ब्रह्मसूत्रं गले बीजमालं, भुजोदञ्चितोद्यत्परश्वायुधोग्रम्‌ ।
स्वयं ब्राह्मणं क्षत्रियं ख्यापयन्तं, भजे नाथ नारायणं जामदग्न्यम्‌ ॥2॥

Uro brahmasūtraṃ gale bījamālaṃ,
Bhujodañcitodyatparaśvāyudhogram ।
Svayaṃ brāhmaṇaṃ kṣatriyaṃ khyāpayantaṃ,
Bhaje Nātha Nārāyaṇaṃ Jāmadagnyam ॥2॥

[You were possessing the divine holy thread on Your chest and wearing a garland of Rudraaksha seeds around Your neck. You were wearing the battle-axe on Your shoulder and looking very wild. You were appearing as a pious Brāhmaṇa (from the father’s side) and also as a violent Kshatriya (from the mother’s side) at the same time. I worship such Lord Narayana, who is in the form of Warrior-Brāhmaṇa called Shri Parashuraama, the son of Sage Jamadagni.]

अहो! राम रामेति चाक्रन्दनेन, जनन्या स्सकृत्सन्निधिस्थं सरोषम्‌ ।
पितृद्रोहदण्डाय बद्धप्रतिज्ञं, भजे नाथ नारायणं जामदग्न्यम्‌ ॥3॥

Aho! rāma rāmeti cākrandanena,
Jananyā ssakṛtsannidhisthaṃ saroṣam ।
Pitṛdrohadaṇḍāya baddhapratijñaṃ,
Bhaje Nātha Nārāyaṇaṃ Jāmadagnyam ॥3॥

[When Sage Jamadagni was killed by the sons of Kartaveeryarjuna, Mother Renuka cried calling Parashuraama for 21 times. Immediately, You appeared before Your mother with a lot of anger and promised her that You would kill all the proud kings by wandering the earth for 21 times. I worship such Lord Narayana, who is in the form of Warrior-Brāhmaṇa called Shri Parashuraama, the son of Sage Jamadagni.]

सहस्रांशुबाहूज्ज्वलं कार्तवीर्यं, हरन्तं नभः कालमेघोपमेयम्‌ ।
नृपग्रीष्मनाशं भुवो बाणवर्षैः, भजे नाथ नारायणं जामदग्न्यम्‌ ॥4॥

Sahasrāṃśubāhūjjvalaṃ kārtavīryaṃ,
Harantaṃ nabhaḥ kālameghopameyam ।
Nṛpagrīṣmanāśaṃ bhuvo bāṇavarṣaiḥ,
Bhaje Nātha Nārāyaṇaṃ Jāmadagnyam ॥4॥

[You killed the 1000-handed Kaartaviirya, who was shining like the summer sun with 1000 intense rays. You were like the rainy black cloud that masks the sun and by raining the arrows from Your divine bow continuously, You ended the summer season of egoistic kings on the Earth forever. I worship such Lord Narayana, who is in the form of Warrior-Brāhmaṇa called Shri Parashuraama, the son of Sage Jamadagni.]

नृपा ऽसृक्सरः पञ्चकेनैव साक्षा, त्पितॄं स्तर्पयन्तं प्रतीकारतीव्रम्‌ ।
विधायैव मक्षत्रियां गां निषण्णं, भजे नाथ नारायणं जामदग्न्यम्‌ ॥5॥

Nṛpā 'sṛksaraḥ pañcakenaiva sākṣāt,
Pitṝṃ starpayāntaṃ pratīkāratīvram ।
Vidhāyaiva makṣatriyāṃ gāṃ niṣaṇṇaṃ,
Bhaje Nātha Nārāyaṇaṃ Jāmadagnyam ॥5॥

[You were very violently responding to the sinful actions of kings. You made five lakes from the blood of kings and performed the rituals of Your forefathers with that blood. You became peaceful after making the Earth free of even a single bad king and only then sat on the earth! I worship such Lord Narayana, who is in the form of Warrior-Brāhmaṇa called Shri Parashuraama, the son of Sage Jamadagni.]

परश्वायुधालङ्कृतं चापपाणिं, तपोब्रह्मचर्योज्ज्वलं कश्यपाय ।
प्रदाया ऽवनिं योगपद्मासनस्थं, भजे नाथ नारायणं जामदग्न्यम्‌ ॥6॥

Paraśvāyudhālaṅkṛtaṃ cāpapāṇiṃ,
Tapobrahmacaryojjvalaṃ kaśyapāya ।
Pradāyā 'vaniṃ yogapadmāsanasthaṃ,
Bhaje Nātha Nārāyaṇaṃ Jāmadagnyam ॥6॥

[You always wear the battle-axe like a special ornament. You possess the bow and arrow in Your hands. You shine due to penance and celibacy. You donated all this earth won by You to Sage Kashyapa and then sat on the earth in the posture of padmaasana in yoga mode. I worship such Lord Narayana, who is in the form of Warrior-Brāhmaṇa called Shri Parashuraama, the son of Sage Jamadagni.]

तथा मे ऽपि भक्तस्य पिण्डाण्ड दृश्यान्, रजो दर्पभावा न्विनाश्या ऽवलोक्य ।
विधायेह सत्त्वाधिपत्यं प्रसन्नं, भजे नाथ नारायणं जामदग्न्यम्‌ ॥7॥

Tathā me 'pi bhaktasya piṇḍāṇḍa dṛśyān,
Rajo darpabhāvān vināśyā 'valokya ।
Vidhāyeha sattvādhipatyaṃ prasannaṃ,
Bhaje Nātha Nārāyaṇaṃ Jāmadagnyam ॥7॥

[Similarly, as said above, You also see My egoistic feelings present in My body due to excess of the quality of Rajas and destroy them. Then, You make My good qualities as the king and establish peace in Me. I worship such Lord Narayana, who is in the form of Warrior-Brāhmaṇa called Shri. Parashuraama, the son of Sage Jamadagni.]

महेन्द्राचले तीव्र योगाग्निदीप्तं, स्फुरद्वारिजाकेकराकर्णनेत्रम्‌ ।
युवानं जगन्मोहनं तापसेन्द्रं, भजे नाथ नारायणं जामदग्न्यम्‌ ॥8॥

Mahendrācale tīvra yogāgnidīptaṃ,
Sphuradvārijākekarākarṇanetram ।
Yuvānaṃ jaganmohanaṃ tāpasendraṃ,
Bhaje nātha nārāyaṇaṃ jāmadagnyam ॥8॥

[You sat on the top of a mountain called Mahendra and You were shining with Your internal divine fire of yoga. Your half-closed eyes were long, up to Your ears, shining like lotus flowers. You were very young and attracting all the world with Your beauty. You were praised by all the worlds as the king of Sages. I worship such Lord Narayana, who is in the form of Warrior-Brāhmaṇa called Shri Parashuraama, the son of Sage Jamadagni.]

इदं परशुरामस्य, काश्यपेन कृताष्टकम्‌ ।
पठन्सर्वरिपुध्वंसी, सार्वभौमत्वमश्नुते ॥

Idaṃ Paraśurāmasya, Kāśyapena kṛtāṣṭakam ।
Paṭhansarvaripudhvaṃsī, Sārvabhaumatvamaśnute ॥

[This divine prayer on God Parashuraama is written by Shri Datta Swami, Who is born in Kaashyapa gotra. A devotee, who recites this prayer will destroy all his enemies and become the emperor of this entire earth.]
